Regular Council Meeting
10-16-00
Page 3
Building - Mr. Samac said the new parking garage at Progressive is open. The Assisted Living
facility is progressing and should be under cover before we have any frequent snowfall. It
should be completely enclosed by mid-December and they will probably be able to open in the
Spring.
Fire -Chief Mohr said we provided literature to the elementary schools for Fire Prevention
Week. We will conclude the hydrant maintenance program by Friday. Several hydrants are out
of service and will be reported to Cleveland Water for repair.
Finance - Mr. Brett said Councilman Parker had some questions from residents regarding the
recent gas choice programs. He has prepared a memo to help explain some of the aspects of gas
choice. (He had distributed copies to Council.) There really is no deadline; this will be like the
regulation of the phone companies. Mr. Brett asked Council to review the memo and if it meets
with their satisfaction (or he will edit), we will send it to residents with the information
explaining the issues on the ballot. We could have someone from Ohio Consumers Counsel
speak to residents at a town meeting if they would like. They could probably address the electric
deregulation as well. He asked Council to tell him of any suggestions or changes so he can get
this in final form.
Recreation - Mr. Thomas said we have started playoffs for Adult Coed and Men's Softball
leagues this week. We will finish up, weather permitting, this week. The Over 35 League
should finish on Sunday, October 29. The second Battle of the Bands contest for Mayfield High
School students will take place on November 10 from 7-11 p.m. Ten bands have submitted
tapes. We are anticipating 600-800 students at the November 10~~ event. The Garden Club,
Councilwoman Mills and the Service Department have been working very hard in beautifying
Parkview Pool with plantings. The second annual Halloween Window Painting Contest for 6-8~'
graders is taking place now and all the Village store windows are covered with festive designs.
Judging will take place Thursday.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
Activities Committee -Mrs. Roman said the Committee will meet the first Wednesday of
November.
Architectural Review Board - Mr. Samac said the Architectural Review Board met September 28
and gave preliminary approval for a new dwelling on Echo Drive.
Board of Appeals - Mr. Samac said there was no meeting.
Cemetery -Mrs. Cinco said the students were not able to work the first week in October because
of inclement weather. They will be working toward the end of the month.
Citizen's Advisory Board -Mrs. Cinco said they met September 25. Mr. Diemert met with them
and explained the ballot issues. They elected to get together on the 11~' of this month and again
on the 23`d to decide if they want to formulate a letter on some of their feelings.
