Regular Council Meeting <br />8-18-08 <br />Page 10 <br />PA12KS & RECREATION - Bill Thomas <br />Mr. Thomas reported that everyone should have received the Fall Parks and Recreation brochure <br />in the mail. <br />ARCHITECT - Ron DiNardo <br />There was nothing to report. <br />HUMAN SERVICES - Eunice Kalina <br />Mrs. Kalina reported that they have a program this Tuesday which everyone is invited to attend. <br />They have a senior speaker series where various speakers are scheduled a couple times a month. <br />This is going to be one of the best. A lady who lives in Highland Heights that participates in <br />mariy of our activities, Eva Hashigucci is an American of Japanese descent. She and her family <br />were in various Japanese internment camps during World War II. She goes around speaking <br />about this. Mrs. Kalina invited Eva to come and talk to the seniors about it. She has graciously <br />accepted. Mrs. Kalina has seen the video of her presentation. It is scheduled for Wednesday at <br />2:00 p.m. Mrs. Kalina is actually appalled at the number of people who don't know that this <br />situation even existed in our country. They don't teach it in schools. Mrs. Kalina does not know <br />how she knew about it, but she assumes she learned it in school. She does a very good job of <br />whatever she does. It will be in the community room at 2:00, no charge. Also, the date has been <br />finalized for the flu shot program with the Board of Health. It will be Wednesday, October 22°a <br />in Civic Hall from 1:00-3:00. You must sign up ahead of time. Sign-ups are September 19th and <br />September 22°d. They accept Medicare Part B or $25.00. <br />STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS: <br />Activities Committee - Mrs. Mills reported that the summer concerts are still going on. There <br />are three more, until September 4`h. Come and participate. <br />Architectural Review Board - Mr. Marrelli reported the Architectural Review Board met last <br />Thursday and spoke about signage for the Georgian Center which has been taken over 100% by <br />University Hospitals medical group. They have to rebrand all of the signage. This will be <br />discussed at our next meeting. <br />Beautification- Mr. Saponaro reported that the Beautification Committee met on Monday, July <br />14t and had a walking tour of the trail of the Greenway Corridor followed with a meeting. <br />Various items were discussed. Part of the reason for walking the trail was so that the Mayor <br />could speak to the Committee about his vision regarding what he would like to see on the path. <br />There was an area on the east side north of Thornapple where a bench was placed with a potted <br />plant. Mr. Saponaro would encourage everyone to look at it and provide their feedback as to <br />whether or not they like it or would like to see something different. The Committee would like to
