Regular Council Meeting Minutes
12-15-08
Page 5
Hillcrest Council of Councils - Council President Buckholtz reported that they had a wonderful
breakfast meeting last Saturday morning. It was well attended and particularly well attended by
Mayfield Village. The Mayor was there and Tom Marrie, Joanne Cinco and Patsy. Council
President Buckholtz was sworn in as Treasurer. More importantly, Sari Feldman was there from
the Cuyahoga County Library. She gave a fantastic presentation. The Sun Press did a wonderful
article on it. Stay tuned. At a time when the whole economy is down and everything you see is
bad news, the library is growing by leaps and bounds. The one point everyone talks about is
with technology being what it is, will these new technologies replace libraries or books? That is
not the case. They are big movers in technology. As a matter of fact, this library was the first to
pilot a program where they are using text messaging to let you know that your books are in. It is
phenomenal what they have coming, not to mention the potential of building new and larger
facilities. Council President Buckholtz thought it was a great meeting. A lot to look forward to.
M.A.R.C. - Dr. Parker reported that M.A.R.C. met on Thursday, December 4I' at the Board of
Education building. They reviewed the financial budget. The Board. accepted a donation of
$5,000.00 from Andy McCartney from Bowden Manufacturing. The Board also heard a
proposal for a cheerleading program. There will be further discussion at the next meeting. Floor
hockey and the MBA basketball program will begin in January. The next Board meeting will be
Thursday, February Sth. There is no meeting in January.
Ordinance 12eview Committee - Mr. Marquardt reported that Ordinance Review met on
December 9t to continue discussing obsolete codes and bringing them up to date. There was
nothing earth shattering, just to bring some of our codes up to where they should be and to reflect
the way we do business.
Planninlz and Zoning - Mr. Marquardt reported that Planning and Zoning met on December lst
to do a final discussion and vote on recommendations to Council relative to oil and gas well
drilling. There were four recommendations put forth covering different actions that the Village
should take. The vote was 4 in favor and 1 against.
Recreation Board - Mr. Marrie reported that Recreation Board met on the 19'h of November. A
couple of the items discussed were the possibility of a summer teen event. Nothing was settled.
It is still being discussed. The Board was concerned about the Debbie Hudacko Run. There were
not enough people involved. They discussed the possibility of getting the Mayfield cross-country
high school team involved or solicit Progressive to put some teams into the run to get more
people involved. Also, there was much discussion about the possibility of changing the name of
the Debbie Hudacko Run. (Mayor Rinker was not in agreement. Mr. Marrie said he fully
understands where Mayor Rinker is coming from. Mr. Marrie was just relaying what was
discussed). What they said was that, and it is true, a lot of the kids have no idea who Debbie is,
but they would have it in honor of her and call it the Mayfield Run. That was one of the names
that were thrown out. You can do it in honor of her. It was tabled for further discussion. The
Board also discussed and made recommendations for pool rates for Parkview. That was pretty
much the meeting. Mr. Marrie also wanted to report that the Christmas party and Santa ride was
a big, big success this year for the kids. We had the most we have had ever. We had at least 70
