Regular Council Minutes
3-15-04
Page 15
Marquardt's neighborhood] and the Deepwood, Creekwood, Timberline areas where the joints in
the concrete need repair.
Mr. Marquardt questioned when.
Mr. Metzung replied April; maybe going out to bid in May.
Mrs. Mills said I attended the Board of Health meeting on March 8. Everyone should've received
the resolution regarding the Board of Health to delegate authority to quarantine and isolate to the
Health Commissioner, that is in regards to if they ever had an outbreak of the flu or whatever
that they could distribute antibiotics. They did address the West Nile Virus and said because of
the education that the known cases dropped from 200 in 2002 to about 20 in 2003. She advised
Mr. Metzung that they have a company which we can purchase pellets from. The flu vaccination
programs will be the same as always. Their new facility (at West 130th and Brookpark) is a very
nice facility.
Mrs. Mills said last month we talked about the possible donation from Wa1Mart. I went to
Wa1Mart and the manager gave me $1,000 check for the Historical Society, $1,000 check for
Parks & Recreation and a$700 check for the Fire Safety House.
Council expressed appreciation to Mrs. Mills and Wa1Mart.
Council President Buckholtz said we should do a resolution to them for community participation.
Dr. Parker asked Mr. Thomas, are we looking into uniforms for the kids this year? Can we look
into their getting more than just a cap-to make the kids feel like they belong to a group. [Re
softball]
Mr. Thomas said he and Danielle will look at it.
Mr. Metzung said I attended a road program where they discussed using concrete overlays on
roadways; it is an interesting prospect. I had some speculation but they say it will get twice the
life as long as an asphalt overlay will. I am curious to see how that data plays out in the future.
They ground the road off, put a layer of asphalt down and then put concrete over top. T'hey are
saying they have used this in Michigan for a while-but not around here. The jury is still out.
Council President Buckholtz asked Mr. Marrie if he will be attending the all-day seminar on
Wednesday.
Mr: Marrie said yes.
Mr. Saponaro said he has spoken with some residents. With all the garbage from the winter, etc.,
do we have a day that is designated as a clean-up day? Residents have talked to me about the
area adjacent to the freeway by Holiday Inn and getting on the on ramp [of I-271] and how there
is garbage in the trees, etc.. It would probably be good if we, as a Council, could coordinate
something. I would be happy to assist with that.
Mayor Rinker said we have done it in the past. It is a good idea. Generally, we've had good
results. Neighbors clean up their yards.
