Regular Council Minutes
5-17-04
Page 21
logical for us to acquire. When you look at the west side of S.O.M., which is predominantly
owned now by Mayfield Village north of Highland Road along the frontages, this is yet one
more property that is contiguous to the Mount Sinai property. As you recall, we purchased the
south and west periineter portions of that property a few years ago. All of this is to acquire
contiguous land for a park. The Lazzaro and Kinnaird properties front on S.O.M.; immediately
behind them are the old Midvale paper street properties. When we worked out a deal with the
owner of most of those properties, which resulted in the insulation on the west side of North
Commons of Governor's Village and then on the A1terCare Facility, we acquired the east side
which is around 4 acres of land. So the Lazzaro property, I think, bit by bit fits into the kind of
incremental acquisition we've done. I think what's really nice about it too is we have tried,
much as we did you'll recall with the Rentschler property where the Fire Station is next door too,
these are properties where a lot of times with elderly people, the security of knowing that
Mayfield Village, when the time is appropriate for them, would like to have the first chance of
refusal if you will, is there. I think it's a certain security; it's almost like a life estate. So the
Lazzaro property is again, is one we can quietly and I think nicely purchase land and everyone
benefits.
Council President Buckholtz asked if there were any further comments.
There were no comments.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Ordinance Enacted
First Read'ang of Ordinance No. 2004-25, entitled; "An emergency ordinance authorizing the
Mayor to join with the Village of Gates Mills and the Gates Mills Land Conservancy and the
Cleveland Metroparks in their Issue 1 Application for Acquisition of 10.3 Acres in Mayfield
Village and Gates Mills." Introduced by Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole.
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to suspend the rules of Council requiring an
Ordinance to be read on three separate occasions.
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mr. Marrie, made a motion to enact Ordinance No. 2004-25.
Mr. Marquardt asked, what is this about?
Council President Buckholtz said this is the second component, when we were first approached
by Metroparks, well it is land contiguous with the similar ordinance that we passed for the
Metroparks; the 17 acres of the Metroparks. This is 10 acres that Gates Mills, primarily the
Village of Gates Mills, primarily the Gates Mills Land Conservancy, we have members here and
we have the Mayor--Mayor White of Gates Mills, here to answer questions. These are the 10
acres that Gates Mills Land Conservancy, Gates Mills, in cooperation with Metroparks would
like to acquire.
Mr. Marquardt asked, what is the contribution the Village is going to expect to inake?
Council President Buckholtz said $60,000.
