Regular Council Minutes
5-17-04
Page 7
about where we are going, how we are going to get there and why and wherefor. There are a few
items that are "no brainers" such as the Case Western Reserve agreement where it allows
Mayfield Village to get in on a total freebie which we will do. It is on the [agenda] tonight for a
vote. I want to assure everybody we will go after this one step at a time but we will keep moving
on it. We will make sure that what we are going after--if there is a problem, what the problem is
and how we're going to solve it, some of which I think you saw in your packets already; we've
already got some of it going. Four departments have already inventoried what they have, what
they need and what they can't do and so forth. So we will go after their needs and their wants.
Then, also future-the future isn't going to be settled maybe today-but tying into the overall
picture of what we'll do, I think we have to find out what the problem is first before we come up
with a solution on some of that. So, we'll work on that and we'll stay with it.
Council President Buckholtz said one other thing that was brought up to me by the Law Director,
by Joe Diemert-there is a meeting tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 with Adelphia. Everyone
probably saw in their packet that they are claiming that they are finally going to come forth with
their original contract in providing some sort of network services to the school. I am going to try
to be there.
Mr. Marrie asked, where is it at? (I don't have that note in front of ine.)
Council President Buckholtz and Mr. Diemert said Mayfield Heights City Hall. Council
President Buckholtz said if you can make that and so can Phil. There may be some redundancy
between what the Alliance is doing and what they are doing. I will try to be there as well and Joe
will be there. Let's see what they're really going to come through with.
Health Care Task Force/Insurance - Mr. Brett said this evening we discussed MCO's which are
the Managed Care Organizations and they are done in conjunction with the Worker's
Compensation Program and Mr. Marrie would like me to call around to get some input from
other cities and I will do that; we have to have something in by Friday.
OPEN PORTION - 3 minute limit imposed by Chair. Those who wish to speak must first state
their name and address. This open portion is limited to discussion pertaining to the items under
"Old Business" only.
Third Readin2 of Ordinance No. 2004-06, entitled; "An emergency ordinance amending the
Codified Ordinances of Mayfield Village regarding the possession of certain weapons in public
places." Introduced by Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole. (First Reading 1/26/04; Second
Reading 2/ 16/04)
Mrs. Roman said I thought it was amended and questioned if a motion to amend was necessary.
Chief Dearden said the last copy we received was back in March. There was a very minimal
amendment in regards to language. The original language did not differentiate between
concealed weapons and how it would pertain to permit holders under the new carrying concealed
weapon law as compared to open wearing of firearms. I think the amended version that came
forward in March spelled out that it was for the unconcealed carries.
