We've had a number of these in the past
couple of years where we've had some of our old guards, so to speak, who've decided that time
is catching up with them and it is time to move on. And I am speaking tonight of Steve
Hovancsek, the Village Engineer. In typical fashion, Steve has always liked to keep things low
key. But we are not going to quite let him get away with a quiet exit. I understand that people at
your office were all set to have a nice big bash and that just kind of went a different way. It is
my pleasure to read a resolution that we've put together. It's a small recognition of all of the
years that Steve has provided to us and frankly, to a lot of communities on the east side of
Cleveland. I was on Council maybe about a year
and then Mayor Carmen had come to us and was just trying to get a straw vote, an idea, of how
we might want to look to the introduction of garden style apartments that were being proposed
on--I think it was the Goldberg property-either that or at that time Associated Estates had a
property right smack dab in the middle of the Northwest Quadrant. I had no idea then what
density meant-other than I felt kind of dense when we were talking about it. Steve intervened
and very quietly but very pointedly gave us a very quick lesson on some of the realities of what
we were contemplating. Because we were looking at density of probably 6 to 8 units an acre;
which on that property alone probably could have taken Mayfield Village's population up over
the 5,000 mark. In many respects, for me that was a turning point and it kind of emblazoned in
my mind the notion that as a Village where we stay under 5,000, it's a goal worth accomplishing
