Regular Council Minutes
6-28-04
Page 4
and it's one that I think we've done a lot to accomplish. And we directly owe that to Steve
Hovancsek and I think collectively, our efforts to work that way reflect the philosophy that I
think in the long run will stand the test of time. So, thank you.
Everyone applauded.
COMMENTS F120M COUNCIL PRESIDENT BUCKHOI,TZ
Council President Buckholtz said not to try to overdo the Mayor, but I am going to try to make a
quick little statement about Steve as well and anyone else that has known him for a long time.
When I first got on Council, I don't know why--but somebody-and I can't even remember who
in the community I was talking to-a longstanding member of the community-and I said so
what do I actually do as a Councilman. They said well--one, you've got to keep your eye on this
guy because he's the Mayor and he's got a lot of ideas and you've got to watch him-and that's
why I like this seat right here because I can better keep an eye on him. And the other thing they
told me was watch out for this guy-the Engineer-Steve Hovancsek. I'll never forget hearing
that because he works for a lot of municipalities around here and I remember somebody saying
isn't that a conflict of interest or something. So, I didn't know Steve so I would listen to what he
was saying and write down what he would say. It never ceased to amaze me that every time
there was an issue-and believe me-as we said before--there was a lot with stormwater
management and all this flooding and everything--Steve always had the answer. He knows the
terrain of this entire northeast area of Cuyahoga County like nobody I know-whether it's
Cuyahoga Engineers who are working on the trunk line-or URS-whenever we get somewhere
where nobody knows the answer or exactly what's going on-he's always got that hand-Mr.
Council President Mr. Mayor-can I just and he completely solves the problem or knows the
answer so I just thought I'd put that note. Yes, we do have cake. We are going to do what we
have been doing lately a little bit. But this is really a special occasion and-not because we want
to see you go. We are going to take a break in the agenda at this point.
Council recessed at this time (approximately 8:25 p.m.)
Council reconvened at approximately 8:40 p.m.
Council President Buckholtz said I don't really have any comments but I would like to
congratulate Karen Mueller who I understand has replaced Leah Whidden-is it--as the
Chairperson of the Mayfield Business Education Alliance.
Everyone applauded.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:
Service: Mr. Metzung said I hope people get an opportunity to look at the new landscaping we
did at North Commons by Parkview Pool. We redid the median area. We will be doing more
landscaping on the sides to really make that kind of a showplace. Also, we have leveled and
seeded the properties at Joyce Road and Wilson Mills. Right now, we've just got grass on it. We
will be building a bed and mound area for the corner as the residents requested putting up a new
street name for that area so we will be preparing that as the summer goes on. Hopefully,
everything will be very nice over there also.
if
?
?
