Regular Council Minutes
9-27-04
Page 6
conjunction with other jobs they are doing in the Village at the same time so we thought it was a
good way to go.
Mrs. Mills said the students worked the first week in September and they worked today and
today we fed them. They will be working next week.
Mr. Saponaro said the Garden Club and Historical Society work in conjunction with the Union
Cemetery. They also have students come over from Mayfield who perform a lot of the work at
the cemetery itself. It is a great combination ofresources-[between those], our Village and the
Gates Mills Horticulture Center.
Mrs. Mills said we had 12 students today.
Mayor Rinker said I have a feeling with the greenway we will need snore kids.
Mr. Saponaro said I know that both Mayfield High School and the Horticulture School are very
open to any type of program that we could utilize and give those kids an opportunity.
Citizen's Advisory Soard - Mr. Saponaro said Citizen's Advisory met last Monday; we had
Mayor Rinker, Council President Buckholtz, Mrs. Mills, Mr. Metzung, Mr. Marrelli and Mr.
Thomas attend. It has been a terrific year with Citizen's Advisory; we've discussed various
issues that we brought back to the Village. Mayor Rinker and Council President Buckholtz were
kind enough to come to speak on some of those issues, to kind of flush them out and see what we
need to do in order to take action. They concern S.O.M. widening and kind of an update on that,
our sidewalk program, trash throughout the Village and what we can do in order to contain it,
beautification (either through homeowners associations or interested residents.) Then we also
discussed issues with Parkview Pool in terms of hours of operation and things that we could
better the pool with. Our next meeting is October 25 at 7 p.m. We will keep the reports coming.
It is a great group. He recognized Shirley Jay of Citizen's Advisory who was in the audience.
The names of folks on Citizen's Advisory was put in the last Voice of the Village. I would
encourage any resident who has an issue-and we really look at global issues, so if there is a
global issue that is affecting you and your neighbors, please contact anyone on Council and if
you aren't comfortable doing that you could certainly contact anyone on Citizen's Advisory.
And I am happy to discuss with anyone after the Council meeting any questions that they have.
Commission on Aging -Mrs. Mills read the report from Mrs. Kalina attached.
Drainage & Infrastructure/Stormwater Mgt. -Mrs. Cinco said there is no report at this time.
Safety and Service -Mrs. Cinco said Safety & Service met on September 13. We discussed the
postage machine and addresser equipment which is on the agenda tonight and was approved by
Finance; we discussed the off-street parking schedule. That again is on the agenda. Discussion with
the contract for Gates Mills jail versus EMS services. We talked about reimbursement to a part-time
firefighter for paramedic school; concluding with winter equipment for cutting edges for the
snowplows. That is on the agenda and was approved by Safety & Service.
