Regular Council Minutes
10-18-04
Page 3
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:
Douglas Metzung (Service)
Mr. Metzung said our leaf season has begun. We will be attempting once again this year to tour
the Village at least once a week. We will complete the season around the middle of December.
We will stay out as long as the leaves and the weather holds out. Since we don't have the S.O.M.
Committee report anymore, I will cover S.O.M. Center at this time which includes--they are
looking to make a significant pour on the Phase 3 section beginning Wednesday. Traffic is going
to be a mess so you might want to avoid the area because theyhave to do that during the day.
Where they closed Highland Road, they have made significant progress. They are hoping to open
that up maybe a few days ahead of schedule. They'd requested 3 weeks to have the road closed
and it appears that they are going to be a little ahead of that. They closed Metro Park Drive today
to complete that intersection; all of that is working towards getting Phase 2 open to traffic. The
work on Phase 2 which is the east side of the section north of Highland Road, they are
completing their landscaping and asphalt work and things of that nature. They are moving
forward and looking to get done within next week or so.
John Marrelli (Building)
Mr. Marrelli said two issues this evening. First of all, the SOM Court townhouse development
has begun. They are starting to clear the trees off the lot. Judge Krenzler is fast at work having
trees cleared and soon there will be grading going on and the sewers and roads will be going in.
The landscape will be changed and probably in the next 2 weeks we will see a big difference in
the view there.
Mr. Marrelli said Progressive Building 4 is now 3/ occupied. The remaining floor should be
occupied by November 1St
Mayor Rinker said just to follow up a little bit with the Krenzler property. I think it is of
significance and Tom Cappello worked on this. But Judge Krenzler had-one of the steps in the
initial work is accounting for the detention structure issues. Per our code provisions the original
drawing looked like it was going to be a huge basin. Through a combined effort with our
engineers, with Judge Krenzler, with John and overall because of the work being done in the
parkland area, we were pretty confident that we were not only going to be able to reduce the size
of that but in the process, an area that had been designated, earmarked if you will, for a detention
structure, will be able to be utilized pretty much in conservation easement format. The reason
that is significant is there are a lot of trees right there on the north bank of the stream which
really would have fallen under the axe and Judge Krenzler has his grandson out there who went
out and walked the line and Tom was able to shoot some grades and literally roped it off and a
couple of other trees-these are on Judge Krenzler's property, are being protected so that when
the trees that come down that are necessary for the site preparation-when that work is done, we
hope to retain a pretty substantial buffer right around in that area. I think in the long run that is
the proverbial win-win where for properties, for the property itself that is being improved and for
the adjacent stream area, our park area, it really helps to enhance both. And that comes through a
lot of attention and cooperation. So we look forward to seeing it.
