Regular Council Minutes
10-18-04
Page 7
decisions on it. One big decision is where we need to do the wiring because Adelphia wants to
know exactly where to put the wiring come the first quarter. I would like to see us get that
moving as fast as possible because Murphy's Law says the first quarter they will walk in here on
January 2"d and say where do you want it and we won't be ready for it. I think we have to plan
on them coming in early and not at the end of March. I think our long range plan has to be done.
There is no doubt about that and I think that has to be accomplished. I am hoping that when we
are done with this that our long range plan won't stop the plan of moving our associates over into
the building where they belong now. So in other words, put in a system now that we can build
on. Not a system that won't be any good for the future but put in a system that we can plan on
and add on, add more computers and telecommunications, and whatever else we need. The rest
of the committee has not seen this and I have not read it completely myself. I just received it. We
will be having another meeting and by our next meeting we will have a presentation that we will
be able to give to the Mayor, Council and Finance-a recommendation to go from there.
Mayor Rinker said very good. I think it should dovetail for the next Caucus meeting what we
hope to have together. We have done some basic benchmarking work for budgeting,
refurbishment of the Church. We have asked Ron Dinardo basically to go through and try to spec
it and effectively cost it out if we were out in the marketplace and then prioritize it with the
thought being that if we can sort of distinguish between a basic upkeep expenditure, looking at a
floor plan for moving would be Building, Finance, Recreation and the Administration over in a
way that we think can be very cost effective with primarily only cosmetic changes to the existing
facility so it allows us the flexibility of looking at the options of all right, what next, do we look
at major refurbishment of the entire structure, do we look at something on the site over here; in
other words, the kind of thing where we can isolate what I think is a relatively modest change in
the building structure and a good investment in terms of what our current needs are. I don't know
if we have blueprints or not but at least we can take the existing site plan-the plans that Mr.
Dinardo at least had worked up in conjunction with talking with departments and with John and
with Bernie and then costing that out. I think those 3 things together then in conjunction with
what your group is looking at should give everyone, I think, enough of a handle on what the
basics would be for making this kind of a decision.
Mr. Marrie as I said, we would like-and I use the term "beginning" I don't know what would be
abetter word, but to get us started to get our associates moved over there, we also are looking at
the fact that we are not trying to bite off the whole thing, atwo-year plan in one bite, to put it
another way, we are not General Motors, we are Mayfield Village and we would like to take this
apiece at a time that we can well adjust to it and well afford it.
Mayor Rinker said one thing I would add, it turned out the weather was so dismal this weekend
and Worton Park Homeowners group had a clambake that was supposed to be a block party.
Long story short we ended up going over to the Fellowship Hall of the Church and between
being able to cook outdoors, use the kitchen and Fellowship Hall, and a lot of residents who had
not seen it before were really very impressed with the overall layout. It got good use; it is a very
functional facility.
