Regular Council Minutes
12-6-04
Page 2 .
that I hope you will all consider becoming a member of. I know if you have any questions, I
think the chiefs will be glad to answer them. In the next couple of weeks we will be meeting with
members of the police and fire departments just to let them know what the group does. I am
trustee for Mayfield Village. There is a trustee from every community in the Hillcrest area. If
there are any questions, I would be glad to answer them. I was asked to become a member and a
trustee about a year ago and I was proud to do so. My father is a retired Cleveland policeman and
it is pretty important to me.
Mr. Marrie asked, you say it is like the Blue Coats? They do education too, don't they?
Mr. Jochum said it is.
Chief Mohr said Blue Coats does education too for fallen firefighters or police officers.
Mr. Jochum distributed the pamphlets.
There were no questions.
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES: Regular Council Meeting -November 15, 2004
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Dr. Parker, made a motion to approve the minutes.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None
ABSTAIN: Mr. Marquardt Motion Carried
Minutes Approved
COMMENTS FROM MAYOR RINKER
Mayor Rinker said the Firemens' Dependents' Fund is an ongoing organization and asked Chief
Mohr to give an overview. We have 2 individuals [in the audience-Wanda Hejcl and Ed
Gottschling] we'd like to swear in tonight.
Chief Mohr said the Firemens' Dependents' Fund is part of the Volunteer Fund of State of Ohio.
We actually have a widow of a volunteer Firefighter who passed away in the line of duty during
the early 1970's. There is a fund mandated by the State and the State Auditor and the State
Attorney General manage her pension and we have a widow who is 86 or 87 years old; they
manage her pension. The community needs to have a volunteer group that oversees this pension
and reports to the State of Ohio yearly as to the activities that she is receiving a pension and that
there are no problems with it. That is basically it. The unique thing is that we no longer have
volunteer firemen but she is living and thus she receives a pension; thus we need this Board. It
is comprised of a council member and 2 members of our community and vv~ell as Donna as the
Clerk. Then this is reported to the State Auditor and the State Attorney General's Office yearly.
That is what this is, in a nutshell.
Mayor Rinker requested a motion from Council to approve the resident appointments of Wanda
Hejcl and Ed Gottschling to the Firemens' Dependents' Fund.
