Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
August 28, 2006
Page 10
Beautification Committee - Mr. Saponaro reported that the Beautification Committee met on
August 14t . At the meeting, Alan Siewert from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources came
to speak to the Committee about putting together a tree program, if they wanted to start planting
trees throughout the Village, replacing trees that have died. He was very informative. The
Committee learned a lot about what this type of project is and what it would entail. He will
provide us with more information regarding putting a tree program together that can be brought
in front of Council. They also spoke about a few other issues, the 271 ramp area and a
continuing clean up process. The next Community Clean Up Day is currently scheduled for
October 7th. We will again target what area we will clean up. We may be targeting more than
one area depending upon how many people we have. We believe we need to have an ongoing
clean up program as an opportunity for residents to come out and help beautify the community.
The next meeting is Monday, September 18th at 7:00 p.m.
Board of Anneals - Mr. Marrelli reported that there was no meeting, so there is no report.
Cemetery - Mrs. Mills reported that the Garden Club is still working on the flower beds in the
cemetery.
Citizen's Advisory Board - Mr. Buckholtz reported that Mr. Saponaro has asked to step down
from this Committee. Mr. Buckholtz attended the meeting. They had a very good meeting. They
discussed a lot of concerns. Mr. Metzung was there. They are looking into a few homes and
foundations that are on Ridgebury. The Committee brought up a lot of interesting things. One of
the more positive items for consideration came from one of the members about having an open
Farmer's Market in our area. Most likely it is too late for this year. Mrs. Betsa has already done
some research as has Mr. Buckholtz. Mr. Buckholtz passed around the information. Dr. Parker
indicated that Willoughby has a market. The information about the organization that does Shaker
Square is highly priced, but it is a great outfit. They are expanding. We could possibly talk to
these guys or Heinen's and get them involved with their cooperation for dual benefit. We could
try it a couple of times over the summer and then consider a weekly basis. Further investigation
into involvement will be pursued. On another note, Mr. Buckholtz is hopeful that Dr. Parker will
step up to chair this committee. One of the other things is that, reminiscent of when we first
started our Parks and Recreation Department with Bill Thomas how the Rec Board was unsure of
their role. A lot of the people on Citizen's Advisory are unsure of their role, especially with the
Beautification Committee and many other things going on. They brought up many things that
would have never come up in other committees. They are a direct link to our residents, issues,
concerns, what is going on. Some of it overlaps what Beautification is doing, but it is a real pre-
and post-committee that brings things to our attention and comments on things going on in the
other committees. Minutes will be available shortly.
Commission on Aging -Mrs. Mills read the report, attached to the Minutes. Of importance is
that the flu shots are November 5th. Sign ups will take place shortly.
Drainage & Infrastructure/Stormwater Mgt. -Mrs. Cinco reported that there has not been a
meeting. Mrs. Cinco has been in contact with Diane, who has done a wonderful job of keeping
everything together. They set a deadline for applications for next year for November 30, 2006
for any project to be considered for next year. This will be out in the Voice of the Village along
