Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
September 25, 2006
Page 5
Mr. Buckholtz stated that he would like this for all Committees. We will establish a
general list, making specific to each Committee, describing what they are known for. In his
conversation with Mrs. Mills, he realized that certain people like the Marries have been taking
care of the cul de sac by them with Mrs. Britton for a number of years. In Mr. Buckholtz's
neighborhood, Mrs. Kobayashi takes care of the flowers by the sign. If we can list all of the
things that are currently being done, people will have a better idea when offering suggestions to
improve things or coming up with new ideas without interfering or stepping on people's toes.
Mr. Saponaro asked if the Garden Club was a Committee, or a separate organization.
Mrs. Mills replied that the Garden Club is so active in doing things for the Village. Mr.
Saponaro understands that, but with regard to this memo, it is not a role that we put a Council
person on. Mr. Buckholtz agreed. There are so many things Garden Club does for the Village,
so it was worth noting. It is like an offshoot of Activities. It is not our Committee. Mr. Saponaro
added that it is a separate organization on its own.
Mr. Buckholtz suggested that what has been done in the past or what could be done in the
future would be to have everyone work together rather than feel there are territorial issues.
Secondly, it occurred to Mr. Buckholtz in talking with a few people that we really do not
need more than one Council representative. Mr. Buckholtz deferred to Ms. Calta with regard to
the Ordinance far the Beautification Committee. We made it two Council representatives and an
alternative. It is a good idea to change that back to one Council rep and let the Committee
govern itself, electing their own Chairman. Mr. Saponaro will stay with that Committee. Mrs.
Mills agreed to stay with Activities and be the alternate for Beautification. If we need to change
that in the legislation, we can do that at a future meeting. It is not apost-haste situation.
Mr. Saponaro added that that would go also with 2020. It has two plus an alternate. Mr.
Saponaro would step off of that Committee and Dr. Parker can remain on that Committee. Dr.
Parker indicated that was fine.
Mr. Buckholtz stated that what happened was that there was so much support for 2020
and Beautification and so many people wanted to be a part of it. That's fine, but we could run
into close to Sunshine Law issues if everyone shows up to a Committee meeting.
Both Ordinances will be checked and changed at another meeting.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:
SERVICE -Douglas Metzun~
Mr. Metzung reported that there are quite a few things on the agenda tonight for Service.
He will go through those when we get to them.
Responding to Mrs. Eisenberg, the roadways, Glenview, Bonnieview and Seneca are in
good repair, they are not dangerous. They will not cave into the road tonight. We maintain those
