Regular Council Minutes
10/23/06
Page 4
Village by providing them with a number of pieces of signal equipment that we had in surplus
from the S.O.M. Center Road project and that was all replaced. So there was no financial cost to
us and we look forward to a better and more efficient movement of traffic in that intersection.
We are using the newest LED technology for the lights. Those have a longer life span with less
problems. We are looking forward to having a better movement of traffic.
PARKS & RECREATION -Bill Thomas
Mr. Thomas reported that this past Friday from 7-10 p.m., Mayfield Village, Mayfield
City Schools and Mayfield Heights sponsored the Fourth Annual Teen Halloween Event. We
had 338 students participate. They all had a great time. Also, we had the 8t" Annual Halloween
Window Painting Contest. The winners will be in the paper this Thursday. First place was the
Mayfield Village Barbershop and second place went to Tikki Hut Tans. Mr. Thomas passed
around the pictures and told everyone that if they have an opportunity to go around throughout
the community and look at them, it is worth it. They are very impressive.
With regard to the winter brochure, Mr. Thomas stated that it will be mailed around the
first week of November.
HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT -Mrs. Kalina
Mrs. Kalina reported that the phone calls for flu shots have not left them a lot of time to
do the transportation survey. They have done some. Mrs. Kalina will get back to us on that
when it is completed. Mayfield Heights was contacted and they indicated that they are very
happy with TC3. They are renegotiating a contract. They may be raising their prices because
they have a very heavy demand. Highland Heights was contacted and they indicated reluctance
to get involved as they are part of the Tri-City Consortium. That offers some transportation.
They feel threatened by the idea that Highland Heights might be looking elsewhere for
transportation. Mayor Rinker asked Mrs. Kalina what the Tri-City Consortium is. She indicated
that is Lyndhurst, South Euclid and Highland Heights. Mayor Rinker asked if we could
coordinate with those three. Mrs. Mills stated that we had an opportunity when Mayor Beebe
was in office. He declined. We do not know how to get into it now. We will check in to that.
Mrs. Kalina reported that the programs are going well. This Thursday morning, Bill
Amendola from the police department will be providing a program on identity theft. Games
continue on Monday afternoons. Tomorrow is the last of the computer classes for this year.
They have been very well received. We are looking to do more classes with this organization
next year.
