Regular Council Minutes
10/23/06
Page 5
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Activities Committee - Mrs. Mills reported the Committee met on October 4th. The Committee
recapped their summer activities and summer concert evaluations. Also discussed were the
upcoming holiday events: Tree Lighting, December 3`d; Singing Angels, December 9th; and
Menorah Lighting on the 15th. Also discussed was the three year contract for electronic
fireworks by Zambelli. Summer Concerts for 2007 were also discussed. The next meeting is
scheduled for November 1St
Architectural Review Board - Mr. Marrelli stated that there was no meeting, so there is no
report.
Beautification Committee - Mr. Saponaro reported that the Beautification Committee met on
Monday, October 16th. Minutes are forthcoming. On October 7th, the Committee held another
clean-up day, cleaning up in the Yours Truly Plaza. It was a beautiful day. Many bags were
removed. It was brought to our attention by Bill Buckholtz and Edie Wohlgang that there is an
area behind and adjacent to the plaza that is so strewn with garbage. It is a real problem. They
asked that this be brought to Mr. Marrelli's attention. Mr. Marrelli asked if it is in the woods
there. Mr. Saponaro indicated it is. What we did was supply everyone with gloves and pinchers
for garbage pick-up. They did not have enough time to clean up in that location. Mayor Rinker
asked whose property it was. Mr. Marrelli said he thought it was Russo's property. It is beyond
the shopping center. Mr. Marrie indicated it is in the woods, so it probably is. Mr. Saponaro
stated that people on the Committee offered to take pictures, but he indicated that our Committee
beautifies, we will pass this along to John. Mr. Saponaro aslced Mr. Marrelli to do what he could
with that. It is pretty bad. Mr. Marrelli responded that we have been watching the dumpsters
and trying to get people to keep their garbage in the dumpsters. Mr. Buckholtz added his thanks
to the people such as Mrs. Eisenberg, Jean Britton and Edie Wohlgang that called this to his
attention. Mr. Buckholtz suggested that along the north border of that shopping center is a board
on board wooden fence. If that were to continue across the eastern portion, not the whole way,
the problem might be alleviated. Circumstantial evidence indicated that it was probably more
problems with the trash collector, but it did not seem that way. There were at least a dozen and a
half lids to 5 gallon pickle/paint tubs, glass, syrup pitchers, all kinds of stuff in there. Some of it
clearly is blown in there, other stuff, Mr. Buckholtz does not know how it is getting in there, but
if that same fence were to continue only about maybe 15 or 20 feet around at the edge of the
parking lot, that might help. Most of the garbage was to the east, but it was actually in the
backyard of the residents to the north as well. Mr. Saponaro advised the Committee that he
would bring this to Mr. Marrelli's attention for action upon it and report what is going on back to
us. Mr. Marrelli stated that he has had their landscaper that works the plaza clean that twice
already probably in the last two months. He does not think he is going into the trees. He is
taking care of the perimeter. Mr. Saponaro stated he is not, this stuff is truly buried in there. It is
pretty bad.
Mr. Saponaro also reported that this past Saturday the 21St, a group got together including
himself, Patsy, Jean Britton, Carol Marrie, Marge Eisenberg, Peter Gall and Joe Doran and
