Regular Council Minutes
10/23/06
Page 6
planted 500 bulbs around the gazebo and the beds in the center of town. That should be beautiful
in the spring.
Mr. Saponaro stated that as you will see in the Minutes, the Committee is doing great.
We are trying to figure out what we~want to focus on. There are a lot of things. We have a lot of
enthusiastic people. Sue DelRosa is the Chairperson of the Committee. You will get the Minutes
by next week. The next meeting is November 27th at 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Marrie added that the area in the back by Aladdin's was also bad. Sometimes they
just throw their garbage and if it misses, it stays there.
Mr. Saponaro said that he does not know if they have big enough containers. Mr.
Marrelli said they are big enough, it is just everyone is in a rush. Mr. Saponaro added that it
seems like they are always busting out of them. Mr. Marrelli indicated that they are too lazy to
break down the cardboard and everyone is in a hurry. When Mr. Marrelli had Bob Drobnik on
the scene, he was making three trips a week over there telling people to close the dumpster or
pick up the paper. That was a routine.
Dr. Parker asked if we have ever issued any citations. Mr. Marrelli responded that he has
not issued a ticket for littering. He could do that if that is what you want him to do. Mr. Marrie
stated that if they continue to do it after you talk to them, you have to get their attention
somehow, issue it, bring it to a head. Mr. Marrelli said that if that is what Council wants, he can
do that. Mr. Saponaro said that certainly from a beautification and a citizen's advisory
standpoint, that is a big deal for the residents. They really feel like they are repeating the same
thing over and that plaza is a problem and it does not seem like the Village does anything. Mr.
Saponaro said to them that they do not know what we do because they do not see behind the
scenes. If it gets to a point where it is egregious, take it to the next step.
Mr. Marrie noted that a while back there was discussion about containers and smoking
receptacles were put around the plaza, but we need trash can containers by Aladdin's and outside
of CVS. What is happening is that newspaper stands become a collection agency for everything
and anything. He thought we were putting one over there but something must have fallen
through the cracks somewhere. Mr. Marrelli indicated that we have talked about it; it is just a
matter of who is going to put it out and who is going to pick it up. Mr. Marrie said that
according to what we were told, the renters are responsible because of the contract they have
with Musca, so they should put it out and they should maintain it. It is in front of their place.
Mr. Marrelli will ask them to do that.
Mr. Buckholtz asked Mr. Saponaro for clarification. Did the committee elect officers or
just a chairperson? Mr. Saponaro responded just a chairperson, Sue DelRosa. Patty Russo is
going to the school and working on a litter prevention program with the high school and other
students there, so we have people on little ad hoc committees, but only one chairperson.
