Regular Council Minutes
11 /20/06
Page 7
the. Metro Park, Highland Road, Zorn Lane sewer project. Other than that, he does not have
anything else to report except for what is on the agenda.
Mr. Buckholtz indicated that we will amend the agenda when we get to New Business.
POLICE -Chief Dearden
There was no report.
PARKS ~ RECREATION -Bill Thomas
Mr. Thomas reported that the Office on Aging and the Recreation Department are
looking for more participants to go on an Ogelbay Festival of Lights which is going to be Friday,
December 1St. Anyone interested should please contact the departments. Last week, we took
320 participants on our second annual Polar Express, part of the Cuyahoga Valley trip. Mr.
Thomas received a little note today which read, "A great big thank you for the opportunity to
purchase 11 tickets for the Polar Express. The children were thrilled. It was a very happy event
for the 7 cousins who love being together. Their ages range from 2-10 years of age. The
keepsake bell was a treasure for all of them." It was sent by Patricia Groesel who lives on
Deepwood Lane. Mr. Thomas stated that another individual also went on the trip and asked her
to comment on it. Mrs. Betsa reported that her family very much so enjoyed it. She did not even
realize there was a train back there. Her children had a great time. Their jammy bash. They had
hot chocolate, went up to the North Pole and came on back and in the car on the way home it was
a very quiet ride as they were snoring.
Mr. Thomas added that Dr. Parker had asked at Caucus what the curing time was for
Parkview Pool once it is painted. It is between 5-7 days. It will take about 4-5 days to paint it
and another 5-7 days to dry. The individual he talked to said it would be 5 days if the weather is
dry. It would take 7 days if the weather is wet. We expect this project to be completed before
mid-May at the latest.
Mr. Thomas stated that we are just a short five months away for our Spring/Summer
programs. We have started planning already.
IiUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT -Mrs. Kalina
Mrs. Kalina reported that October was pretty busy with reservations and cancellations for
the flu shots. They handled it pretty well, especially when Mayfield Heights and Highland
Heights refused to take any more phone calls. Everyone called Mayfield Village. They had a
wonderful identity theft presentation by Bill Annandono for their sociables group. It was well
attended. They did a fabulous job. It was appreciated. Unless we have a specific program going,
we don't get much attendance for the sociables program. We are cancelling that and will have it
sporadically when we have programs in place. We also had a Halloween luncheon for the card
group on October 31St. That was well attended and a nice affair. We are still continuing to work
on transportation. There will be a survey in the Voice of the Village. We are also making calls to
