Regular Council Meeting
2-26-07
Page 10
Mr. DiNardo also included a brochure for a seminar that our local Cleveland Green Building
Coalition, a partnership with the United States General Building Counsel, is holding. If anyone
is interested in attending, it is May lOth and June 21St. You may want to think about taking one
or the other. They are different, one is understanding the project cost and return module which is
important. The other one is a new construction technical review workshop for new buildings.
Mr. DiNardo would like to get Council involved in discussions. For future buildings in the
Village, we should approach this, not that we are going to do a lot of new.buildings but the ones
we do we should look at it. Mr. DiNardo has given some information to our Engineer. We
should be looking at how we handle some of our stormwater runoff. These are things that we
have already been doing, it is just that we do not have LEED certification for it. It is mostly for
buildings. Mr. DiNardo wanted everyone to be familiar with this process which he thinks will be
up and coming.
Mr. Buckholtz stated that on the LEED certification, everyone should make their best effort to
read the information provided. We will need to talk about it. Cost needs to be discussed. How
much will it cost to amortize over saving on energy or potential saving. This is a worthwhile
project. Mr. Buckholtz stated May lOth is a Thursday. That one is project costs and return
module. Everyone should make an effort to attend. We should try to get a group together to go
to this. When the subject comes up, there will be familiarity. We will have to research the costs,
but there are benefits.
Mayor Rinker advised Mr. DiNardo that he appreciates the fact that he has been introducing this
topic in the last number of ineetings. He is glad that we are going to try to get people to go. At
the bottom line, we are a public entity. If anyone is going to take the lead, it should be our public
institutions. We have a responsibility to do the work on this, to research it, to understand it
enough that we can advertise it. It clearly is a sign of the times. This is going to be essential for
us to do. The more we can demonstrate that we are responsible as public officials, it is practice
what you preach. It is a very good thing.
With regard to the auditorium, Mr. Buckholtz stated that he knows work has been progressin
almost every night and day to get the job to a certain point by March lOth. As soon as March lOt
is over, we are heading to April. Could we receive something for Caucus on what Phase II
would be? We have been working with scotch tape and nickels and dimes to pull this off for
March lOth, but he is sure everyone on Council will be wondering when there is reference to
things like lighting and sound. Everyone is going to want to have a much better picture with
actual numbers as to what is coming in terms of those kind of changes. Mr. DiNardo responded
that we have been working with a variety of the contractors trying to get numbers, so it is not like
we are not doing anything there. Mr. Buckholtz advised that he would rather not wait until the
April Caucus because Mr. DiNardo is going to be wanting to be moving in April on things. Mr.
DiNardo stated that it is up to our subcontractors to get the information back to us. Mr.
Buckholtz suggested that if we do not have those numbers, we have two weeks until Caucus, just
an outline of the kind of things that are coming would be good. If there is not a lot of
inforination to supply at that time, we will put it on the agenda for the April Caucus with full
numbers to keep that moving.
