Regular Council Meeting
2-2G-07
Page 9
8tn grade boys were using the main gym, but because of the fieldhouse problem, everything as far
as school programs moved in to that main gym. As a result, we have lost all practices and games.
We took the 7tn and gcn grade boys and put them in the other gym at the Middle School. There
was no other option. We are starting the playoffs. They start tomorrow. We will go for three
weeks. As far as the Saturday program for the 3`d and 4th graders, there are no conflicts with
games, we are still on track for that, but we do not have a location for anyone that was using the
high school main gym. We tried to put them in other locations. It was a nightmare. The schools
are working on it to try to repair the problem.
AFLCHITECT - Ron DiNardo
1VIr. DiNardo updated Council on the Civic Center renovations. As you have been walking
through, you can probably see a lot of things going on. Just to let you know, the extent of work
that is happening now will be completed before the March l Oth Appreciation Dinner. That is the
first phase. We will move on to the next phase which will be the area which is the new
performing arts area which will include the stage, soffit, lighting, curtains and structural things.
That will be coming in as we progress through this. He will be providing updates on various
things.
The other item to report is the police station. We have completed the soil boring. The
geuthermal contractor called him and told him that he will be done with his geothermal borings
by Friday with a report that will be provided two weeks after he is completed. The geothermal is
a type of heating and cooling system that was provided in your packet at Council Caucus. That is
paart of our attempt to design this police station as a sustainable project where we are using
alternative energy sources. If you had a chance to look at it, there is pretty interesting
information there. With this report from the geothermal contractor, we can establish how to
. design the geothermal system and heating and cooling facility.
Mn. DiNaxdo also provided to Council a packet on LEEDs certification. There is also a packet of
ini:ormation on lighting control solutions from Lutron. Lutron has put together a little pamphlet
which talks about the requirements for LEEDs. LEED certification is Leadership Energy and
Eravironmental Design. It is not new, but new buildings are going this way. We should be
proactive in this. In the long run, we will be a community that gives back without doing too
much. We can look at it and say, hey we are proud of this because we took the initiative to
design the building to be able to better our environment and decrease global warming. Mr.
DiNardo suggested Council look at this interesting information. It starts you off with a process.
There are also a couple of articles included in the packet. People comment on what the true cost
is of building green. There is one article there that explains it. As we proceed in the next five to
fifteen years, you will see that the costs are going to become not an issue with designing these
new buildings. These new buildings have become standard. This new type of design, sustainable
design, will be a standaxd thing in a lot of buildings. Mr. DiNardo thought it would be good to
share to Council to educate them with that.
