Regular Council Meeting
2-26-07
Page 8
LEGAL I)EPARTMENT - Diane Calta
There was nothing to report, unless there are any questions. There were none.
FIRE - Chief Mohr
Chief Mohr reported that we are preparing for Citizen's Emergency Response Teams. That is
the next step of our mass inoculation volunteer program. The best way to describe it is to think
of the civil defense program for communities in which volunteers assist public safety in
performing things such as checking on the elderly and providing medication or assisting the
public safety in time of need or during a storm situation. We are preparing to train the trainers
and then proceed to bring it to the volunteers. There is an interest of volunteers from Mayfield
Village, Mayfield Heights and Highland Heights to take this next step training. The County will
provide C-money to us to provide our residents with this training. We are going to take the steps
to do this.
FINANCE - Phillip Brett
Mr. Brett provided to Council this evening the 2007 Mayor's Budget with the updated numbers.
He looks forward to hearings in the future on this. Mr. Buckholtz asked Council to seriously
read this between now and Caucus. A portion of Caucus will be dedicated to discussing this.
POLICE - Chief Dearden-
There was nothing to report.
PARKS & RFCREATION - Bill Thomas
Mr. Thomas reported that last Monday, the Recreation Department took their last ski trip. It was
the only one for this season because there was not any snow for the other ones. We took 53
skiers to Holimont. The Sun Messenger had a very nice article about our adaptive Friday night
program. We are appreciative of Susan Ketchum. She had a photographer come out and take
some great pictures. Mr. Thomas does not live in the area where the Sun Messenger is, but he
opened up his local Sun Press and they had the same article, so it covered a lot of communities.
It was very nice. Back in 2006, South Euclid was looking at recognizing our veterans on
Veteran's Day. Mr. Thomas just received a letter from them that they decided to combine that
with Memorial Day and they asked a number of communities if they wanted to participate. Mr.
Thomas e-mailed them back that we already have a Memorial Day presentation at Whitehaven.
Mr. Saponaro asked about the status of the basketball program due to the problem at the high
school. Mr. Thomas indicated it has been a nightmare. Mr. Saponaro asked if we are going back
and readdressing the game cancellations and shortened season. Mr. Marrie responded that Sean
at Mayfield Heights is working on the schedule to reschedule all practices and games. Mr.
Saponaro indicated they are already going in to the playoffs. Mr. Marrie stated that the?y are
splitting it and he has part of the schedule with him tonight. Mr. Thomas added that the 7' and
