Regular Council Meeting
2-26-07
Page 11
HUMAN SERVICES - Eunice Kalina
Mrs. Kalina reported Meals on Wheels wanted her to convey their appreciation for the space on
the marquee. Almost as soon as the notice went up that they had a need for volunteers, they had
three calls f-rom our marquee. In the winter, they have a lot of people who go south. We are
geiting older and retiring from delivering meals, so there is a need for new volunteers. Mrs.
Kalina further reported that they had two luncheons in February, one for the card group. 49
people were present. That was on Tuesday the 13th, the beginning of the snowstorm. On the 16tn,
we, had the Annual Employee Thank You Luncheon. We have a painting class which started last
week and is continuing. It is going very well. The card group continues to grow and do well.
March 15th, we are going to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Patsy Mills has volunteered to make
soine soup. People are going to bring sandwiches. We will have dessert for them. We are
working on a senior identification assistance program. Mrs. Kalina has discussed it with Chief
Mohr and Chief Dearden and Kim Reilly, our Communications Supervisor. Currently there is a
program in the CAD system of the police department which can be expanded to include
eniergency contact people. We will continue to work on this. This means that it will be a
voluntary program with respect for confidentiality. It is an important thing to do. Mrs. Kalina
advised that everyone should have received the March calendar.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
A?;tivities Committee - Mrs. Mills reported that there is a meeting scheduled for March 29tn
All bands have been scheduled for the Summer Concerts. One of the other discussions we
had was the Ptacek project. This gentleman goes to _ different communities and photographs the
cammunities and then puts together commemorative pictures of the various communities. You
can do sepia or black and white. It is pretty interesting how the project works. He will come and
talk to someone about it. They can direct him to the locations where pictures should be taken or
he can do this himsel£ Joanne added that Jim Ptacek is a photographer who has done many of
the cities, Mentor or Shaker. He presents at the Home and Garden Show. You will see photos of
Strongsville, the Cleveland Stadium and the old stadium.
