Regular Council Meeting
2-26-07
Page 3
Dr. Parker asked if half boxes could be put along the cemetery fence. Joanne stated that she
could absolutely find out. Mrs. Mills asked if the fence would hold them. It would not.
Mayor Rinker stated to Joanne that it is great that she has done this. We have needed to add
sotne color.
Mr. Marquardt asked if maintenance included watering. Joanne stated that it would not.
They would maintain them up to the end of May. Our Committee has spoken with Doug and he said
they have the water tank, it is 1,000 gallons. They would maintain it. If they were going to go out to
do 8 baskets, go for the gusto. That is why they picked a number. Obviously, they can order more
an(i obviously this can be something that can be increased.
Joanne stated that our Committee has other areas of concern. They would like to do the
medians on Wilson Mills. They would like to do quite a bit, but this theme between the potted plants
and hanging baskets and the ones for the Musca property and Carney property or anywhere else we
caii put them are a11 going to be red, white and blue and should be nice. If we do it now early, it will
get done to the way we want it.
Mrs. Mills asked Joanne why the Jadd Ma11 was excluded. Mr. Saponaro responded that they
have their own planters there. Mrs. Mills stated that those merchants have been doing that for over
10 years now. If you are going to do it for Musca and Carney, you have to do it for them. Joanne
stated that we can split those up, order 4 more, they just did not want to step on anyone's toes who
already had planters. Mrs. Mills indicated that she did not think anyone would be stepping on their
toPS. Each one of those merchants go out individually and buy their own flowers.
Mayor Rinker suggested that Council consider that since it is time-driven to get the pots and
baskets, we should try to get a nice good number. They will not go to waste. The issues of the
details of who is going to do what can be discussed. With regard to the medians, candidly, we are
going to have to look pretty closely at a certain division of labor. The goal would be not to compete
with but to compliment the activities. If there are things that we can have this Committee do
fiuzctionally as we have Garden Club and Service Department. Service has been taking a look at the
medians and discussing how we are going to do them. That will probably take a while, but if we can
designate some areas where we can isolate, we will work on that. The idea of adding the color does
so much, there is no question about it. Mayor Rinker stated that we should get a good number in
bulk and then we will work on some of the details. They won't go to waste, we will find places. If we
get 4 and we can't use them in the Jadd Ma11, we will find another place to put them.
Joanne stated that our existing 8 baskets that she purchased last year with the brackets would
be nice if we could hang one outside the door on the bracket by the door. There were so many places
at the police station and fire station. We went around and around. Mayor Rinker said that this is
very encouragmg.
Mr. Marrie asked if we could put a number together tonight. Mr. Saponaro indicated that the
numbers are broken down. We can do the calculation if we wanted to add more baskets. If you want
to add more planters, we can do that also. From what Joanne told you, everything she expressed to
