Regular Council Meeting
3-26-07
Pape 5
keep ahead of the game so that they can get these projects in this year. Mr. Saponaro suggested
that we get the proj ects all together and send them to all the members. Get the ball rolling and
get the packets to Committee members. They can rate them and have discussions about them to
keep this going so that we are not holding it up because of ineeting scheduling conflicts.
Safety and Service - Mr. Saponaro reported that all items were discussed at Caucus and are on
thi:s evening.
Finance Committee - Mr. Saponaro reported that they have deferred three items. They will
require an amendment to Council agenda to change and also remove a few items. They are
recommending 18 items for approval.
Hnstorical Societv - Mrs. Mills reported that the Historical Society hosted another session with
the Millridge schoolchildren. There were 90 children in attendance. Mrs. Mills passed around
pirtures taken during the visit. The Cub Scouts are coming tomorrow evening. On April3rd, 50
students from Gates Mills School will be coming to visit. It has been a pleasure to have the
students visit. There is a motion on the agenda tonight authorizing an expenditure for the
Mayfield Township Historical Society. It is very important to the society that this motion is
passed. Finance has approved an increase in the dollar amount which is very generous.
Everyone will be very pleased. Volunteers post about 4,000 hours a year, which does not seem
possible, but there is a bank of about 12-15 people that are down there and work a lot.
Maintenance which needs to be done this year is on the back end of the house in the first room.
, There are some very rotted boards back there. Eventually we will have vinyl siding put on the
house which would entail new windows. In the wintertime, we put vinyl film over the windows
to serve as an additional storm window to keep the drafts out. It is just an old house. The inside
of the house is very good, but the outside is wooden and it takes a lot of maintenance. It will
cost about $6,000.00 to paint the house. We need to think seriously about putting vinyl siding on
and installing new windows. We do things piecemeal so that we do not need a whole lot of
miDney at one given time. We like to save our money and do the most important projects. Last
year we did the lighting outside on the house. It is very nice when you go by it at night. It really
shows up. It is gratifying to know that the school is finally recognizing that we do have an
, educational factor there for kids. The kids really enjoy being there. It is a fun thing for us. Most
of the women acting as docents are retired schoolteachers out of the school system. They really
enjoy being with the children. It is a good project all the way around. This is what we have been
trying to get the Board of Education to recognize and finally Dr. Price and Mrs. Mills had a nice
conversation and everything is in a go position now. We need Lander School to come in yet, but
they are not going to come in until the middle of April. After that, we will have covered all of
the 3`d grade classes. That fulfills their Ohio History requirement.
Mayor Rinker stated that out of all of the different organizations that we have had, this
one is unique in terms of how you really started from scratch. This began about a little more
than 20 years ago. The house was relocated up to its current location. It is just incredible the
labor of love that has gone in to this. You talk about the number of hours that people spend, the
fact that this is an organization that has always been very humble about any request in looking
for support monetarily from the community. It has done really the yeoman's share of all of the
