Minutes of the Combined Caucus/Council Meeting
6-11-07
Page 10
Beautification- Mr. Saponaro reported that everyone should have received a copy of the Minutes
from the Meeting of June 01. As Doug referenced, there were a number of hanging baskets and
planters placed in the Village. As you can see from the Minutes, the Committee members were
not 100% happy with the outcome. That had to do with managing expectations on both ends.
We had some good dialogue and discussion with Middleridge regarding our expectations and
timelines and theirs. They assured us that the way that they do plantings are so that they last well
into the fall. If they were to overstuff or overflow any of them we would have dead baskets and
planters by mid-July because of the heat. Mr. Saponaro expressed the Committee's concerns and
discussed how it would be handled differently in the future. This Committee has done a great
job. They are certainly committed individuals who really want to make sure that the Village is
beautiful. They take pride in their work and should all be commended for their hard work. It is a
new group. This is our first project in terms of the baskets. We will continue to work on this and
make sure that we tweak it and do it better in the future. Also attached to the Minutes is a report
that we have regarding working with ODOT and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources so
that we can put wildflowers at the 271 ramps. Nothing has been finalized at this time. They are
ready to come to Council with it, but they are putting things together and looking at whether
there might be grants or anything else that is available and how other communities are doing
things. They also discussed the Musca property. They discussed the basic structure of the
Committee itself, how it works and what we can do to improve efficiency.
Board of Anneals - Mr. Marrelli stated that there was no meeting, so there is no report.
Cemeterv - Mrs. Mills thanked the Service Department for installing a new post on the
cemetery sign. It was rotted out. She placed flags along the fenceline and on the graves that had
military insignias on them. She complimented Mary Singer on the good job she did at
Whitehaven Cemetery. The Mayor was there and gave an excellent speech. Mary baked cookies
for it. Hopefully other people in the Village will become aware of this ceremony that has been
going on for a great number of years. It is a very nice ceremony to remember our past service
people. Dr. Parker asked if we sent her a thank you. Mrs. Mills stated that she is part of the
Citizen's Advisory. She and her husband took this on as a special project. Mrs. Mills asked
Mary Beth if she would send a thank you note to Mrs. Singer.
Citizen's Advisorv Committee - The Minutes of this Committee's meeting of May 23, 2007
are attached to these Council Minutes.
Commission on Aging - Mrs. Kalina reported that the Committee met on May 31St. They
discussed the Anniversary Party and suggestions for future parties of that nature and discussed
plans for the July and August picnics.
Drainaste & Infrastructure/Stormwater Mgt. - Mr. Metzung reported that you will see
several projects on tonight's agenda. They went over the original list and rated them. They went
out and got pricing for them. They followed up with another site visit with Mrs. Cinco and Mr.
Marrie. The ones on tonight's agenda have made the final cut. We have a few that are still
pending, so you may see a few more come next month. This is where we are at.
