Minutes of the Combined Caucus/Council Meeting
6-11-07
Page 11
Safety and Service and Finance Committee - Mr. Saponaro reported that Safety and Service
and Finance had a joint meeting this evening. They had 18 items on the agenda that were all
recommended for approval to the floor of Council.
Historical Society - Mrs. Mills reported that the Historical Society dedicated the print shop to
Mr. Plastine mainly because he had given us his old printing machine. It really is a very
charming machine. The schoolchildren will really enjoy this. We were able to purchase a new
roller. The old roller was real haxd. We could not print with it. We are now looking for old print
shop artifacts. We are going to a lot of antique shows to try to gather up some things to be hung
on the wall and displayed to the kids. A luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday. The men have a
new project. They captured a part of the old pavilion that held the tools. They are going to make
an outhouse on it, with the moon and star on the front door.
Hillcrest Council of Councils - There was no report.
M.A.R.C. - Dr. Parker reported that M.A.R.C. did not meet this past month. They will be
meeting Thursday, July Sth at Parkview Pool. We also received a request for our portion of our
dues which is $200.00.
Ordinance Review Committee - Mr. Marquardt stated that Ordinance Review will meet
tomorrow at 5:00 to discuss the sprinkler ordinance and gas well ordinance.
Planninlz and Zoniniz - Mr. Marquardt reported that Planning and Zoning met last week.
Arthur Murray Dance Studio and the police station was approved.
Recreation Board - Mr. Thomas mentioned that the next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday,
September 19t . Volunteers are needed for our 18t' Annual Debbie Hudacko Memorial Run.
The 8th Annual Summer Sizzler Swim Meet will be held on Sunday, July 29th at Parkview Pool.
Volunteer timers are needed primarily in the afternoon. The meet will be held from 12:00-3:00.
The trip for the Whitewater Adventure will be occurring on June 29'", not July 29th. Mayor
Rinker added that in addition to the Sizzler, which is July 29th, the following weekend, Mayfield
Village will host for the first time the Suburban Swim League which is a two-day weekend
extravaganza. It is a finals competition, their championship meet. We will host for one of those
days. Therefore, there will be two successive Sundays where Parkview Pool will be turned over
for these two swim meets. In conjunction with Highland Heights we have worked out an
arrangement where people will have reciprocal passes for Highland Heights pool. We hope to
turn this into something positive where the two communities can interact more to try to provide
access to these two venues. Be aware for Council, your constituents may ask questions like why
is it two weekends in a row in the heart of the summer, what are you doing to us. It was not our
planning to have these scheduled quite that way. The Suburban Swim League folks came to us
during the past year when we really already had some other things scheduled. We are trying to
juggle these two things. Ideally what this does is helps promote the competitive swimming
program within the district in a positive way. A lot of good things can come out of that. From a
scheduling standpoint, it is going to be a little bit difficult. We are going to try to make this as
