Minutes of the Combined Caucus/Council Meeting
6-11-07
Page 3
Council President Buckholtz asked that before the presentations are given, he would like to advise that
Councilman Tom Marrie had a procedure done today but he is doing fine. He wanted to be at the
meeting, but we would not let him, because we want him to get well.
PRESENTATION BY TOlvI FIlVI FROM RCU ARCHITECTS
Mr. Fini provided a brief presentation on the new upcoming police station. In sum, Mr. Fini
highlighted the plans and shared drawings and features with Council, including the proposal for solar.
The site is about 132 feet wide. The building is at its maximum about 84 feet wide and minimum
about 62 feet wide. Mr. Fini pointed out locations for entranceways and parking, public meeting
rooms and classrooms, dispatch, stairs and elevators, report room, restrooms, the garage with five pull
through bays and storage facilities. Mr. Fini stated that we are looking at a very low maintenance
building, mostly brick and some cast stone and synthetic fascias and gutterboards. Color.scheme is
very traditional. It will be compatible with the fire station, although not an identical match just for
some variety.
Mr. Fini asked if there were any questions. Council President Buckholtz asked if the
photovoltaic solar will be a LEED-certified project. Mr. Fini replied that the goal is to try to achieve
gold in the LEED categories. There are lesser capacities if we cannot achieve that. The efficiencies
that we achieve with the photovoltaics and the geothermal would help us achieve the LEED
certification.
Dr. Parker asked if the paints are going to be green and low VOCs. Mr. Fini said that was
correct. They are going to go through every category. They are very pleased with how the process
has been working with all of Mayfield Village's deparkments, aduuiustration and municipal architect.
They have been helping us all along on the goals, aesthetically and functionally. They are very
pleased with the results so far. This is going to be one of the nicest police stations they have done so
far in efficiency and aesthetics.
Council President Buckholtz thanked Mr. Fini for his time.
PRESENTATION BY ALISA 1VIcBRIDE FROM SEIVIOR TRANSPORTATION
CONNECTION
Alisa McBride thanked Council for giving her the time to talk with them about Senior
Transportation Connection ("STC"). In sum, they are a relatively new non-profit organization in
Cuyahoga County. Alisa McBride advised Council of the efforts in providing transportation to seniar
citizens in the county. Transportation is one of the top concerns of the senior citizens. There are
presently 59 municipal and non-profit senior transportation service providers operating 179 vehicles
with over 135,000 unlu7ked annual trips. The STC's mission is to provide comprehensive,
