Minutes of the Council Meeting
September 24, 2007
Page 3
do some final touches. The path itself is across Highland. This week the digging of the actual
path that comes out of the underpass will begin.
LEGAL DEPARTMENT - Joe Diemert
There was no report.
FIRE - Lieutenant Girbino
Lieutenant Girbino reported that the firefighters collected over $4,000.00 for MDA over Labor
Day weekend. That is the best we have ever done. Everyone offered their congratulations. Fire
prevention week starts soon. Free classes at the Fire Safety House are scheduled with the entire
third grade at Center School, the first grade and the third grade at St. Francis.
' FINANCE - Philip Brett
Mr. Brett introduced Ted Esborn, Mr. Brett's intern. He will be concentrating on grants,
working with the Innovation Zone and basically preparing for an eventual transition in the
finance department, training in all facets so that he could step in in the event something should
happen. We are applying for Issue II grants. It is on the agenda this evening. The first one is for
the realignment of Raleigh Drive with Beta Drive. The second one is the reconstruction of the
Thornapple pump station. The third one is the reconstruction of Seneca Drive. That will be in
front of you this evening. Mr. Brett has also put in fr ont of everyone a letter from the Treasurer
of the Mayfield City School District explaining where the $100,000.00 went to last year per the
request of some of the members of the Tax Incentive Review Committee. The Committee met
and recommended the approval of all of the existing TIFs and the one that is going to come on
line this year, which will be the Skoda, Minotti TIF. Mr. Brett would expect at the October
Council meeting we will have the Tax Incremental Finance Ordinance for the OMNI Hotel.
POLICE - Chief Dearden
Chief Dearden reported that on the agenda tonight you may have noticed a motion to reject the
bids that were presented in Phase I of the police facility package which is the sitework and
foundation. A memo was provided in packets over the weekend discussing the most recent
unfortunate turn of events. We are beginning a series of ineetings with Marous and RCU as the
architects. We are trying to put together a plan of action with a list of options that we can present
to Council in the near future for discussion on which direction we should take with this project.
,
