Minutes of the Council Meeting
December 17, 2007
Page 6
in between of being strictly a private problem or one that is too small a public works project to
really kind of get your arms around to try to identify how to address these, what really is a
problem where we should be applying taxpapers dollars has always been kind of a dynamic we
have had to work with. We set about collectively to establish some kind of criteria to evaluate
just how to score and respond to the problems because face it we live in an area where we know
stormwater management is a major problem. Officially across our state it has become much
more of a mandate that communities address these problems in a comprehensive fashion.
Overall, what Mayfield has done is pretty unique in the way we address these kinds of issues.
The continuing challenge is to refine it. We have seen some instances where on reflection we
probably would have liked to redone them the way we did it, but they met the criteria we
established. It behooves us to make sure that we are addressing these standards in a sensible way
so that we can still complete the mission of reaching these households in a way that lifts a burden
from residents in a pragmatic way and yet at the same time that we are really gearing it in the
proper fashion.
Safetv and Service - Mrs. Cinco reported that Safety and Service met on Monday, December
3` . At that time we reviewed the lease proposal from Ohio Valley Energy. We received the
preliminary DOPWIC results with the Raleigh and Beta alignment and Seneca Drive.
Thornapple did not quite make it. We reviewed for the police department the CRIS monthly
service and LEADS for 2008. Approved tonight in Finance and discussed in Safety and Service
was the three new police vehicles, radio equipment for the Fire Department, the animal warden
contract in the Service Department and wetlands monitoring.
Fanance Committee - Mr. Saponaro reported that the committee had 12 motions recommended
for approval, two ordinances recommended for approval, two resolutions recommended for
approval and one ordinance that was defened. Council President Buckholtz asked which
ordinance. Mr. Saponaro responded Ordinance No. 2007-29, which will be a subject of
discussion later.
Iiistorical Society - Mrs. Mills reported that the Historical Society had their annual potluck
dinner on December 12th. They always invite the South Euclid Historical Society to come down
and visit them because their membership is low. It was a very nice evening. We are not quilting
until after the first week in January.
Hillcrest Council of Councils - There was no report.
M.A.R.C. - Dr. Parker reported that the M.A.R.C. meeting was called to order on December 6rh
at 7:05 p.m. Some items of note were that Shannon Zajec from the Punt, Pass and Kick
competition won her division at Brown's stadium. Floor hockey and flag football are finalizing
their season. In February there will be a hotshot contest run during halftime at the high school
basketball game. Barb Reid, the Director of Adult Community Education will be retiring at the
end of the school year. The MBA program is going very well. The next meeting is scheduled for
January 1 Oth at 7:00 p.m. at the Board of Education building.
