Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, July 16, 2012
Page 6
Council President Buckholtz asked if there were any other questions or comments. I would just
like to comment that it was an impressive slideshow. I am familiar with most of the areas. I
didn't know you worked on all those. Very nice. Thank you.
COMIVIENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BUCKHOLTZ
There were no comments.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:
SERVICE - Douglas Metzune
Mr. Metzung reported, with regard to the roadway improvement on Wilson Mills, thank you
Council for your straw vote in getting that accomplished in a very short period of time. It was
something we have been working on. The State of Ohio and contractor on Mayfield Road and
Gates Mills had come to us needing to detour traffic to Wilson Mills Road. My concerns with
the roadway as it stood were we were not so inclined to allow them. The contractor stepped up
and said he would make the needed repairs to the roadway. He said he was going to patch the
areas and then he suggested for a few more dollars we could repave that whole little section.
With the blessing of Council and Gates Mills, we got that accomplished. It came out very nice.
They.did it in one day. It is my understanding the traffic is backed up there, but at least they are
backed up on a nice road. Thank you to Council for that.
Secondly, we opened bids for the trailer sale. No one bid the project. I immediately contacted
the demolition contractor we have for the Village Hall site. They sent a change order to demo
that trailer at $5,000. I was then subsequently called by someone willing to take the trailer away.
I received a proposal to have the trailer removed. It is going to cost us $2,000 to give the trailer
away, but that's still a$3,000 savings over the initial demo cost. I thought I had two bidders, but
only one of them showed up with a proposal. It's still a savings and we will move on with that
project. That's all I have to report this evening.
Council President Buckholtz thanked Mr. Metzung. Any questions? There were none.
BUILDING - John Marrelli
Mr. Marrelli updated on the Library. The foundation is now complete. The concrete floor has
been poured. The building is coming up out of the ground. You should be able to see changes as
you drive by shortly. The High School project is going strong because the kids are not in the
way. They are going crazy there if you haven't noticed all the dust and dirt in the air.
ENGINEERING - Tom Capnello
Mr. Cappello reported, the 2012 Road Program began today. It is over in the North Aintree
neighborhood. They are going to be starting work on Bramblewood and Thornsway. Tomorrow
they will start the grinding of Wildwood, Timberline, Deepwood and Creekwood. Work on Beta
