Regular Council Minutes <br />6-16-03 <br />Page 7 <br /> <br />~_~ <br /> <br />Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mr. Marrie, made a motion to authorize an expenditure in the amount of <br />$8,236.00 to Sanderson CMI (for replacement of the main computer in the Finance Department <br />including software for the operating system). <br />Dr. Parker questioned if this includes aone-year warranty/maintenance also (because it didn't <br />say that on there.) <br />Mr. Brett said on the hardware; yes. <br />Dr. Parker said it includes a maintenance agreement so you might want to add that it includes a <br />one-year maintenance because it isn't indicated on here. <br />Mr. Brett said I will make sure. <br />Dr. Parker asked, just out of curiosity, how come it is so much more for that computer? <br />Mr. Brett said for the server-that is really the guts of the thing; the other one is just networked <br />into it. <br />Roll Call: AYES: All <br />NAYS: None <br />Motion Carried <br />Expenditure Authorized <br />^ A motion to authorize an expenditure in the amount of $100,000 to the lo'Iayfield <br />City School District per previous agreement <br />Mr. Riter, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to authorize an expenditure in the amount of <br />$100,000 to the Mayfield City School District per previous agreement. <br />Council President Buckholtz questioned what year we are on, on that. <br />Mr. Brett said 9 out of 15. <br />Mayor Rinker said I would like to make an observation. When we did this initially, we had <br />really gone out of our way to tie the contribution to Science and Technology which we thought <br />would really be very functional. Really what prompted that was the school had around 1993- <br />1994, just adopted at 5-year Science and Technology Plan; kind of a goals and purpose. So we <br />thought this was an appropriate way because it gave the school a lot of flexibility. It also gave to <br />the Village a way to earmark dollars rather than just throwing it into a so-called "General Fund". <br />We felt this way if taxpayers had any questions about where the money is going, we'd always be <br />able to identify it. Over the years we've become very aware that the school definitely utilizes <br />that fund. It is something that, thankfully, has gotten a lot of good play. But I would like to sort <br />of raise everyone's attention to the thought that maybe next year we look to revisiting some type <br />of project trying to focus those dollars more specifically. With Center School, we basically <br />funded the lab. We basically at that time had gotten grant dollars and it was a great way of <br />packaging, leveraging those dollars; it worked out very well.
