Caucus/Regular Council Mtg.
7-14-03
Page 19
Mr. Brett said I think it's a situation similar to what we've experienced with insurance in other
areas. If Council wishes, we can go-we went through an RFP process back in 1994 and had a
consulting firm that is no longer in business sort through our RFP's. Then we experienced about
5 years where there was virtually no fluctuation in the insurance and the numbers came out in a
more timely fashion. I think the market as it is now creates the situation where the negotiations
go up until the last minute. I think regardless of the brokers that you use, you are still going to be
getting the same prices and under the same time frames that we currently are. I think it more
reflects the market than the particular agent in this case.
Mr. Riter said I look at the fact that, and I am not blaming you, obviously; and I've negotiated
insurance policies and I understand how it works-if they get them to you at the last minute it
gives you less time to compare. We are at the 14th of July. God forbid we had a catastrophic
accident in the Village on the 13th of July and Council didn't even have the opportunity to vote
on this.
Mr. Brett said I discussed that with Jay; we were covered. We have a 30-day grace period and
the same coverage is in effect. Probably the best thing to do, Mr. Riter, is to have Jay come in
and discuss it with Council at a work session. Again, he will spend more than enough time with
you and discuss it. He understands it very well, communicates it very well and probably that
would be a good session to have in the future for a work session. Those would be questions that I
think he would field very well; better than I would. So I will ask Mr. Hutchinson to come in-to
arrange for a meeting at a work session.
Mr. Riter said I don't believe that is necessary. I guess maybe just a letter stating that we are
covered if we do have a policy expiration and it is less than 30 days.
Mr. Brett said yes, I could get that but I would suggest a meeting with Jay.
Council President Buckholtz said he could come into the Mayor June Caucus.
Mr. Brett said whenever is convenient-we can address this and any other issues that may come
along.
Council President Buckholtz asked if there was any further discussion. There were no comments.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Expenditure Authorized
^ A motion to authorize an expenditure in the amount of $2,890 to Signal Service
Company for the installation of loops for signals at Rt. 91 and Wilson Mills and
amplifiers at Rt. 91 and Aintree
Mrs. Cinco, seconded by Mr. Marrie, made a motion to authorize an expenditure in the amount
of $2,890 to Signal Service Company for the installation of loops for signals at Rt. 91 and
Wilson Mills and amplifiers at Rt. 91 and Aintree.
J
