Regular & Caucus Minutes
8-18-03
_ ~ Page 12
Council President Buckholtz asked, so these are the properties we have already approved at
previous meetings and this is just the funding mechanism?
Mr. Brett said yes.
Mr. Marquardt asked what is our total indebtedness?
Mr. Brett said he had sent a worksheet to Council that had it listed out and cited several figures.
Mr. Marquardt asked if it is going from 13.5 to 13.9.
Mr. Brett said we are paying off the church, paying the golf course down and the rest is for new
acquisitions.
Dr. Parker thinks it is great we are moving ahead with the ball fields. It has been a long time
coming and is a good thing for the community.
Mr. Thomas said they viewed 3 fields and could give Council a memo about what we liked and
what we didn't like.
Council President Buckholtz said what we are voting on is the funding mechanism. There will be
a number of opportunities to review the items you are selecting in terms of the ball fields.
Dr. Parker said his concern is that we have numbers put down but how do we know how much
they will change in terms of the cost.
Mr. Thomas said the preliminary budget is in the packet. It is conservatively high. He thought it
would be $75,000 each to light the fields but prices are coming in from $100,000 to $120,000 to
light the 2 fields. This budget could be reduced. He feels with the improvements we want to
make such as concrete under the bleachers to there is not weeds and grass, it will come out.
Dr. Parker said he is all for doing everything first class.
Mr. Biter said when he was involved in Highland Heights in building a diamond, they found if
the diamonds were placed correctly you could light 2 diamonds with one light. He and Mr.
Thomas have been talking about this; he was on Recreation before he was on Council.
Council President Buckholtz asked Mr. Brett if this is the most prudent way of funding.
Discussion was held and Mr. Brett explained why he feels it is.

1
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Ordinance Enacted (2003-29)
