Mr. Wynne stated that this is
just our contract renewal for our annual life insurance coverage for all of our full-time
employees. It averages $5.00 per employee per month. The price is the same.
Council President Buckholtz asked if there were any other questions. There were none.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Ordinance Enacted
First Reading of Ordinance No. 2010-12, entitled, "An Emergency Ordinance
authorizing an agreement with Aetna for employee healthcare and hospitalization
benefits." Introduced by Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole.
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mr. Saponaro, made a motion to suspend the rules of Council
requiring an Ordinance to be read on three separate occasions.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Rules Suspended
Mr. Saponaro, seconded by Mr. Marquardt made a motion to enact Ordinance No. 2010-12.
Council President Buckholtz asked Mr. Wynne to comment on this.
Mr. Wynne reported that the Healthcare Task Force has been meeting since December of last
year with our insurance consultants. We instructed them to go out and quote from about six
different insurance carriers for our renewal that was due on April 1 St. They came back with the
quotes for different types of plans. After taking a look at all of them and making sure that we
were in compliance with the language of the collective bargaining agreements, we felt that Aetna
Choice was the best one. It not only keeps our benefit levels pretty much the same, but it also
reduces our annual health insurance costs by $72,000 over what we are paying tod"ay and about
$145,000 less than what Anthem wanted to charge us for the renewal. The Healthcare Task
Force unanimously agreed that was the direction to go and to change insurance carriers.
