Minutes of a Public Hearing '
October 6, 2010
Page 25
Mayor Rinker: Because it's a public use and the property was acquired for development for
public purposes. Statutorily it's a different specific public use, but it's a legitimate public
use plus it's being built in corijunction with our parkland and ultimately the rear portion
, would be subdivided back for future commercial development per the zoning.
?
Q: I don't disagree with the ecoriomics, but what I do disagree with is back there is sitting
that Library across the street from me. I already have problems getting out of my north
driveway. The second thing is, why do you want us to give you and the Council carte
blanche a change in zoning? ;
Mayor Rinker: I will repeat -
Q: No.
' Mayor Rinker: No, I will repeat, I'm not asking you to do that. You keep stating that, but I'm
not asking you to do that. I'm asking you to respect the process, but I personally, Council
individually, they're not asking you to do that.
Q: Sure sounds like it. You're asking us to give up the right to vote on zoning changes in
the Village ---
Mayor Rinker: I'll answer it one more time, because if it's a question, the answer to the question
is, we're not asking you. You have, the question put in front of you per the Charter
Review Commission review process. That's what you have to vote on. You are
presuming that we're asking for it and that is incorrect. We need another question.
* * ?
Q: Dr. Keller, you mentioned Lakewood's 52,000 people. We're 3,400 people and change.
About 1,300 approximately voted last election. 1,300 people. Lakewood is not Mayfield
Village and we don't want to be. I'd like to know from Mr. Fikaris or Farmer, at one
time the Mayor mentioned, I believe at the last public meeting, that all the Charter
Review Commission meetings were open for public attendance. I'm sure if he's correct,
I want to know how many people attended that weren't on the Committee at any one
time, do you have any idea? And I have another question.
Mr. Farmer: Yeah, I could tell you. About the same amount that come to the Planning and
Zoning Commission meetings.
