Regular Council Meeting Minutes
11-15-10
Page 5 ?
Mr. Saponaro asked, so the intent is to obviously suggest this and have people talk about doing
this, but we will have no requirement if the parties can't agree or if there's a maintenance type of
issue?
Mr. Marrelli replied, no. This is something that we are putting on the table for their
consideration. Hopefully shared parking is cheaper than everybody building their own lots.
Mr. Saponaro replied, sure, and sharing maintenance costs and all that.
Mr. Marrelli replied, correct.
Mr. Saponaro thanked Mr. Marrelli.
Dr. Parker asked Mr. Marrelli, and it kind of relates to this whole parking space kind of thing,
someone had mentioned to me about on Beta Drive where the fitness facility is and the
conference center that there were some issues with the amount of space available and even that
there was an issue; Chief Mohr, can I ask you a question, where the Fire Department had to get
in there to take care of some kind of a fire or whatever and it was difficult for them to get the
truck in. Was that the case?
Chief Mohr replied, that was several weeks ago. They had a tremendous conference in there with
a lot ofpeople that overflowed the lot and overflowed the neighboring lots also.
Dr. Parker asked, is this something that needs to be addressed?
Mr. Marrelli replied, it's being addressed. A lot of that is a coordination issue. Their way of
handling the parking because the businesses have a specific amount of parking, each business is
supposed to have. When the public comes out to a new facility'and there's no one directing them
as to where they're supposed to go and the parking is starting to get crowded, they shoot in to
whatever spot they want.
We have a meeting actually tomorrow. Diane Calta from the Law Department, myself and the
Conference Center people and the owners of the property axe going to sit down with the
management company and try to get that under control. It happened two times out of five events
they had. Last time we got called in to that situation, I went down there personally at 8:30 in the
morning when people where coming in and there were parking spaces all over by the hotel, but
nobody wanted to park there. So, it's not about is there enough. There is enough in my view. It's
about coordination so that each business gets their share, and the directions and the coordination
are not in effect down there yet.
Council President Buckholtz asked, could I add to this? What you're saying is is that some of
these things that have been long awaited to make sense out of not doing asphalt, asphalt and
asphalt and -reducing that amount. You're talking about generally coordinating traffic control
from the police and emergency services, Chief Mohr having a say-so with the property owners
when we extend these kinds of, they won't be variances but their thoughts or their input will be -
