Regular Council Meeting
11/21/05
Page 6
POLICE -Chief Dearden
Chief Dearden reported that as one of the final steps of the SOM project, we are in the process of
being educated by the company that has designed and drafted the software program for the traffic
signals on SOM. Part of that project also includes the computer program to analyze traffic
patterns and come out with a preferred system for the operation of the lights. We anticipate that
the analysis and programming will take place probably within the next couple of weeks. The
training for the four officers that are involved in learning the system will probably take another
month. That is part of the project contract. They are required to finalize that before it is signed
off on.
Mr. Buckholtz asked if this is coordinated with the Opticon. Chief Dearden indicated that it has
nothing to do with that. That has something to do with Highland Heights and Beta Drive all the
way down to Lander Road. The SOM project has no tie-in with Wilson Mills or any other traffic
program. Mr. Buckholtz asked if this one is just for SOM. Chief Dearden indicated that it is.
PARKS & RECREATION -Bill Thomas
Mr. Thomas reported that winter registration for programs has begun. We are now in the
planning stage for our spring/summer program.
Mr. Thomas also reported that on the agenda for tonight there is an ordinance which we would
like to amend to read an emergency ordinance for passage to recommend an architect for the
development South of Parkview for our ball diamond complex with parking as a main emphasis
and the building as our biggest two projects. We are also looking at additional planning for the
complex.
Mr. Buckholtz asked if this is an intermediate phase of a longer term build out, but the next step.
Mr. Thomas indicated that was correct. The Ad Hoc Committee and the Selection Committee
recommended and made a final decision.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Activities Committee -Mayor Rinker deferred the report to Mrs. Betsa who indicated that
Singing Angels is December 17~h. The lighting ceremony is December 4rn.
Mr. Buckholtz reported that the day after Christmas, the second day of Hannakuh, is the
Menorah lighting. You do not have to be Jewish. They will have potato pancakes and other
refreshments. We will be outside across the street and then come in here at Civic Hall.
We are working on finalizing the details with regard to Santa going through the town.
Architectural Review Board - Mr. Marrelli reported that Architectural Review Board met on
November 10~'. They had four items on the agenda. An addition for a Woodlane resident was
approved. An addition for a Metropark resident was approved. The final scenario on the
