Regular Council Meeting
3/21/OS
Page 3
PARKS & RECREATIOIV
Mr. Thomas said we have had very positive feedback concerning our Adaptive Recreation
Program. It started about a year ago. We have a very active committee. To date we have had over
125 participants in the program. I am very pleased with the way things are going with it. I met
last week with the High School Athletic Director Jim Dasher and the President of Velocity
Performance (the organization that is going in on Beta Drive.) We are working on a Youth
LaCrosse Porgram. Steve Byrne is the President of that organization. He is a 3-time all-American
at the University of Virginia and on the National Team. I am very excited to have them in the
community because we will be doing a lot of things with them-with the triathlon and
everything else. So we have a very good relationship started with an organization that is going in
on Beta Drive.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Activities Committee - Mrs. Roman said the committee has not met recently; I will probably
report next month.
Architectural Review Board - Mr. Marrelli said the Architectural Review Board met and
approved.the signage proposal for the Progressive Service Center on Beta Drive.
Board of Appeals - Mr. Marrelli said the Board of Appeals met and will meet again tomorrow
for a special meeting. They are working on a variance for a 2-car garage for home owners on
Metro Park Drive.
Cemeterv - Mr. Saponaro said I have no report. Mrs. Mills said the Horticulture students have
already been working at the Cemetery and the Historical House.
Citizen's Advisorv Board - Mr. Saponaro said Citizen's Advisory Committee met on February
28 and discussed numerous items on their agenda. I was not in attendance; Patsy was kind
enough to attend for me as I was out of town. I went through it pretty extensively at Caucus (see
those minutes.) The next meeting is March 2gth
Commission on A2ing - Mrs. Mills read the report from Eunice Kalina, Human Services
Director, attached.
I)rainage & Infrastructure/Stormwater Mgt. - Mrs. Cinco said in talking to Debbie Garbo
today we have received approximately 25 applications. We have been getting phone calls from
residents asking if they still can be included. We are not discouraging them for this year but will
consider if they have property that are adj acent or contiguous to the ones we are doing rather
than waiting until next year and then look at the same kind of thing. So we are not discouraging
new applications but they won't necessarily be on the list. At this time, we will not meet until the
Service Director, Engineer and Building Commission can get out and see the properties.
Council President Buckholtz asked if they received an application from Debbie Breeden.
- Mrs. Cinco and Mr. Metzung said they do not recall seeing an application from her; Debbie
would know; she has the list.
