Special Council Meeting
8-27-01
Page 2
Mr. Metzung asked if it would make any sense to table this until the pool gets drained?
Mrs. Mills asked if an application like that can be put on if the weather is foul?
Dr. Parker said if it is only a matter of a little cosmetic work and it would be acceptable, we felt why
spend the money that much sooner when we can easily do what we have done in the past.
Mayor Rinker said the only other concern I had initially is it appears not to have been a problem and
that was that if the flaking of the paint would have a potential of harming the system. That appeared
not to be a problem, so I think it's just a judgment call for Council.
Council President Marquardt asked if there were any comments.
Mr. Diemert arrived at this time (approximately 5:38 p.m.)
Mrs. Mills asked if we can just leave this until the pool is drained and see how badly it is damaged--
and not reject this bid?
Mrs. Cinco said I would like to know where we are going with it. If we get more information by
draining the pool, it's only another week and a half--we can make a wiser decision.
Mr. Metzung said the only concern I would have is if after we drain the pool and wash it down, we
will call the painter out and see what kind of price--if we are still looking at the same $2,000 that we
paid last year, then I would say that makes sense. If for whatever reason now we are looking at a
$6,000-$7,000--I have never seen it where we have lost paint in the middle of the year. Typically it's
when you clean it that it flakes off. This happened almost at the beginning of the year. I would hate
to see us get to a$6,000-$7,000 mark and then spend that and then come back the next year and
spend $40,000.
Dr. Parker said if we were spending $6,000-8,000 that is a big difference but if we are potentially
talking $2,000-4,000 then it seemed reasonable.
Council President Marquardt said there is a motion on the table to either approve or reject the bid.
He asked for a roll call.
Mr. Buckholtz asked if a"yes" is to rej ect the bid.
Council President Marquardt said yes.
Roll Call: AYES: Mr. Buckholtz, Mr. Busa, Mr. Ilacqua, Mr. Marquardt, Dr. Parker
NAYS: Mrs. Cinco, Mrs. Mills
Motion Carried
Ordinance Enacted
