Regular Council Meeting
1-2400
Page 6
Mayor Rinker administered oaths of office to the following:
¦ Philip M. Brett as Director of Finance/Economic Development
¦ Thomas Cappello as Assistant Village Engineer
¦ Joseph W. Diemert as Law Director
Mayor Rinker said you note that we do not swear in all Departrnent Heads because of
various contractual obligations. The Deparhnent Heads we have, those we swore in
tonight and the other Deparhnent Heads we have, I said he can honestly say are
without equal. I think each of you know and have stories about how our different departments put service to our communify above everything else. I think it is fair to
state that their attitudes of professionalism, of inaintauting high quality, high standards
and integrity starts at the top and works its way down. I think this is a good
opporturtity for us to recognize the Department Heads in the Village.
Activities Committee - Mayor Rinker said the Activities Committee has sort of filled in
the cracks between the various organizations we have in the community. They plan
such events as our Tree Lighting Ceremony, '50s Night, 4' of July ceremonies and other
events throughout the year. These are people who work on specific projects and alway,s ,.r.
help out. , . - ? •
Mayor Rinker administered oaths of office to the following members of the Activities
Committee (for one-year terms): . Christine Casey, Diane Catalano, Elliot Ross and Jill Pappenhagen. `Architectural Review .Board - Mayojr;Rinker said the Architectural Review Board has
the often thankless, task of. revie#ing plans front °decks to additions, ariything struct?a'iral t
in the Village..,They ;tt'y' to be objective and fair in applying good architectural
standards. T'here is also that extra elemenfi of matters of taste and judgement which typically, if you have 12 people, you'll get 12 different opinions. A.RB. tries to put that
together and they are a good conscience for the community.
Mayor Rinker adn*iistered oaths> of = office lo Darothy Buzek and IV'o Tomb? ?azzi for
three-year terms.
;:f.....
Board of Appeals - Mayor Rinker said this Board deals with very specific legal appVqls
of issues involving variances, any issue that is a departure of our 'tir?inarices, our
zoning code. B.O.A. tries to be very objective, evaluate evidence; it's a quasi judicial
function; a very important one.
