Regular Council Meeting
1-24-00
Page 7
Mayor Rinker admuustered the oath of office to Shirley Shatten for a 4year term.
Charter Review Cornmission - Mayor Rinker said this is a singular event--occurring
every 5 years pursuant to our Charter. The Charter of our Village is a very important
document. The Charter is tantamount to our Constitution and in the State of Ohio,
Charter communities hold some very unique positions. A Charter is a very strong
document. Those who embark upon this job do not do so lightly. It takes a lot of
thoughtful deliberation and careful evaluation. The quesfion always arises, "If it ain't
broke, why fix it?" The question is are there other things that need to be improved
upon? And, that is the task of the Charter Review Comnlission. I believe the overall
timetable is roughly a 5-month period of time in which this group meets and sets its
own pace, own agenda. It is entitled to any type of information it believes would be
useful. We support that effort and the resources that need to be made available, we will
support that as much as possible. The way a Charter Review Comxnission is set up,
each member of Council has a selection and the Mayor has a selection.
Mayor Rinker administered oaths of office to Pat Caticchio, Eric Jochum and Ed
Sullivan.
Citizen's Advisorv - Mayor Rinker said Citizen's Advisory Committee is one of our
more fluid organizations insofar as the general platform, the commission of Citizen's
Advisory Committee kind of changes over time. Essentially, it is to represent, I believe,
a cross-section of our community, different ideas, different interests, different
perspectives and bring them all together and to be something of a gadfly for the
community on issues, from the specific to the general. Oftentimes, we have different
kinds of projects and people who have served on this committee have generally been
very equal to a task to be creative, thoughtful and to suggest and help move thoughts
forward. For example, the projects in the Northwest Quadrant. Citizen's Advisory
Cortunittee was very much involved. We look to you to be a vital committee, one that is
always looking for new opportunities and new ways to promote good, thoughtful
government in Mayfield Village.
Mayor Rinker administered oaths of office to John Barni, Sandy Batcheller, Joan
Catalano, Mike Dodson, William Hite, Shirley Jay, Eric Jochum, Carole Marrie and
Thomas Marrie for one-year terms.
Commission on A ing
¦ Eunite kalina - Human Services Director
