The Metroparks has gone in and opened that channel and replaced it with a new 30"
pipe leading through the back of the Blueberry Circle area. This is an area that had given us
trouble; it has been clogged with beaver dams, so they did replace that at this time. I did go back
at the request of Mr. Kerver and ask them to also go through and clean the channel from
Blueberry Circle to the location of this bridge [culvert] which is just north of St. Bartholomew's.
I have not gotten back there to see if they have done that but hopefully they have. They have
been fairly cooperative and I have talked to Mr. Kerber (from the Metroparks) and we agree that
there are issues on both sides. Our drainage certainly has increased over time and their inability
to remove the water promptly needs to be taken a look at also. We have both agreed that we will
continue to work on this project.
Council President Buckholtz asked: Will this pipe have a direct effect?
Mr. Metzung: The pipe that was in there was, probably even at its best, running at 40-50%
because of the log jams that had gotten in there over the years. It should run at 100% now so it
should (without a catastrophe or major rainstorm) keep the water out of his property.
Mayor Rinker: Is there any opportunity to put any kind of detention between Blueberry and
Sunset Pond? Is there any location where that might be done--or would it make any difference?
Historically, this has always been a problem; beavers dam it up. I remember Gus talking about
this years ago.
Mr. Metzung: Not having talked to Mr. Kerver about that but having talked to their naturalist
and the gentleman that is like the manager of the North Chagrin [Reservation], they just seem
reluctant to do that sort of thing. They have enough lakes and things of that nature that they have
to maintain and they, frankly, do want to get into another area.
Mayor Rinker: Is there any other property area? Or, is there a place where it wouldn't be theirs
to maintain necessarily.
Mr. Metzung: I think we'd be looking at doing something with the S.O.M. widening in an effort
there that would be more in the Village's hands that would be west of S.O.M.
Mrs. Roman said: I have pictures that Mr. Kerver brought in today. He wanted everyone to see
them.
(The pictures were passed around.)
