Regular Council Meeting
4-22-02
Page 7
compliance received letters making them aware of the law. I don't know that everyone has been
Council President Buckholtz said I would normally defer to Mr. Samac who is not here tonight.
It is like any ordinance that is about your home or something that is amiss in the Village
according to the laws and the rules that are set forth.
contacted; I don't know to what extent, but it is an enforcement issue that was brought to our
attention so we are responding to it.
Mr. Daniels said that would be one of my questions: How do you know if someone is or is not?
Do you guys drive up and down looking for commercial plates?
Mr. Daniels said I understand that and I see a lot of missed things in the Village--people whose
grass is not cut, people who have cars that are rotting out and I would rather see that taken care
of rather than a commercial vehicle. Again, I understand to a point, you don't want to see dump
trucks or backhoes--no one does. But if I were to have a SUV that had commercial plates on it,
what would be the difFerent between that and a van or a minivan that had commercial plates. I
don't understand where the Village is coming from on this issue. You really haven't said
anything more than commercial vehicles. Who or what were you looking at?
Council President Buckholtz said it is pretty well described at this point; it just doesn't say
commercial vehicles. Are copies of all ordinances available at Village Hall and on-line?
Mrs. Roman said yes.
Council President Buckholtz said the codified ordinances can be accessed through the Village
website: www.mayfieldvilla e.? com. I could read them to you, but... I don't necessarily
disagree with you on all the points, and there are people here who know that; but it is a law. It is
something that was brought to our attention to enforce and is our responsibility to make that
attempt.
Mr. Daniels said I have an understanding that the law that Mayfield Village has has loopholes in
it and that is why you are trying to change it. I, as a contractor or anyone in Mayfield Village--I
have not received anything stating why the law has to be changed or what it has to be changed to.
I think that is not right. If you want to change the law in Mayfield Village, do something
different, then all people should be notified of that. Whether you are a contractor or not, you
should post some kind of letter out to let people know that this is the problem; do you have a
problem on it; let's vote on it--before it is done. Without seeing that, none of us know. I had no
idea what the law was and what you want to change it to. I have no idea and don't think any
other contractor does either.
Dr. Parker said when we discussed it last, the fact that it has commercial plates does not
necessarily mean the vehicle is not in compliance. There are other conditions under which that
vehicle might be incompliant with the law. Just because you have a vehicle with commercial
plates does not mean that it is going to be the object of our law enforcer.
Mr. Daniels asked: shouldn't that be something that is put out to all the people in the Village.
