Regular Council Meeting
6-17-02
Page 19
not having to tear apart my house and get closer to S.O.M. to pull out and having to go back and
forth without that much of a hassle. I did oppose the median because the access to my driveway
would have been limited also. That's why I'd rather put it in my back yard. Both Planning and
Zoning-all the members did say it was a good idea because my yard is so deep (my yard is 309
deep); even with the garage in my back yard, there is going to be 90' between the back of my house
and the garage. That will, also, be a better place for my children to play out by that garage than in
the front yard or in front of the garage if I attach it to the house. The only reason I think Pm here is
because they can't vote for it in Planning and Zoning even though 3 of them said that it was a good
idea but it had to come through the proper channels to be allowed and they couldn't go against the
ordinance because-I really don't know why. I went to the Appeals Board to appeal it and then I am
here now today.
Council President Buckholtz asked Mr. Samac to fill Council in and explain what we are talking
about in terms of the variance itself.
Mr. Samac said the variance is actually for a 525 square foot variance from our Code of
Regulations. We currently allow detached garages to be built to a maximum of 675 square feet.
Mr. Miozzi's request is for a 1200 square foot garage and that calculates out to a 525 square foot
variance request. The proposed garage would be 35-40' in length and 15' in height or less.
(There was no height variance request.) The variance request was just the one request for the
area; (the square feet of the garage.)
Council President Buckholtz questioned if it has anything to do with encroaching on neighbors
or on the distance from the property line--or strictly the size.
Mr. Samac said none whatsoever. Mr. Miozzi has a pretty good size lot. As he mentioned, you
said 92' from the back of the house.
Mr. Miozzi said my lot is 300.
Dr. Parker asked the purpose of the garage. Will it be for commercial use? He asked the
intended purpose for that space.
Mr. Miozzi replied I have a van and a trailer that I disconnect every morning. I leave the van
outside because my garage doesn't fit.
Dr. Parker questioned if there will be a wood shop there.
Mr. Miozzi said I would like to eventually have a wood shop if I can get the tools for it.
Dr. Parker said I am just curious as to overall use of the facility basically. Is it just basically
typical garage-type space, or what? We've had people who might want to store their driveway
sealant containers in there. Will there be any chemicals stored in this facility?
Mr. Miozzi said no; I have my truck, my motorcycle, my kid's dirt bikes, their quads, my wife's
car, a Suburban....
19
