- Regular Council Meeting
~~ 9-23-02
Page 18
She's got a fabulous reputation at the School. Some students were contacted in terms of
whether the idea would fly and whether they liked it. It is getting out by word of mouth.
Just so there is enough kids to work on the physical place itself to get it in operation, in
working order, at which time I would say within about 2 weeks, the middle of October, a
flyer will go out to all the students within the School district, Public/Private will have the
opportunity to be involved.
Resident Sue Lonao: Is this a program modeled after another School, or is this something
you are sort of developing?
Council President Buckholtz said we are sort of developing it right here.
Audience Resident: Are there fees that the children will have to pay?
Council President Buckholtz says there will be. They haven't been set up as of yet. For
sure fees will be set up for any field trips or special events. There will be some sort of a
fee involved with membership once the project gets rolling.
~~ Resident Tim Scazny 648 Meadowood: Is there a specific syllabus set up, time line,
- ~ ~ agenda, on how this money is going to be spent specifically, or is it going to be, as you
come up with your ideas, here's the money.
Council President Buckholtz said no, there is a list of specific equipment and operating
expenses that have been defined.
Resident Tim Scazny: I understand the equipment, I'm talking about the syllabus exactly.
Being a Teacher myself, is there a syllabus exactly how this is going to be spent?
Council President Buckholtz said there is an outline of subject area taken mostly from
Discover Magazine, Technology Review, and Scientific America. Basically, what we are
allowing the students to do is follow emerging technologies and physics, biotechnology,
math, and in some cases history. We are letting them define the syllabus and then they
will be guided appropriately.
Resident Tim Scazny: Who decides how the money is spent, the $25,000? Who oversees
it from the Board or the Council?
Council President Buckholtz said that Mr. Thomas is the Parks and Recreation Director,
Jean Richardson is the Primary Coordinator, I'm the Creative Advisor, so it will be spent
as outlined in the list of equipment and supplies that were submitted to Finance
Committee.
,''~
