Regular Council Meeting
10-21-02
Page 19
erce tion and that misunderstandin ou have I su est is because ou ust assumed that ou I }
p P gY ~ gg ~ Y j Y
were going to get notified for the next meeting.
Mr. Scasny said I was told by Mr. Buckholtz....
Council President Buckholtz said yes; well let me address that...
Mr. Scasny said to sign that paper and make sure we had our names and phone numbers and we
would be notified.
Council President Buckholtz said the Mayor and I share a last word syndrome, so allow me.
There were 2 things that were discussed at that meeting and let me be real clear about it. One
was that the Steigerwalds chose to postpone the hearing for one month. The Mayor just said this
but I am going to say it in less words. So everyone who was here...and let me just say that there
was notice circulated-not by any government officials or any members of this body-telling
everyone to come to that meeting. And we knew just prior to that meeting that they planned to
postpone. So, we let everyone know, come next month. That's today. Okay. Then everyone
signed up on a petition and Dr. Parker insisted that would be a great idea to have a neighborhood
party-a neighborhood meeting. I said let all the parties that signed that...we won't notify
everyone of a neighborhood meeting, so that's where we are getting alittle bit-or we are
getting the impression of a misunderstanding. This flier, we decided we were not going to just
let the people know on that petition but we were going to let everyone know in the Village.
Because more and more people were becoming aware or becoming concerned. I don't know if
there were phone calling campaigns but at the risk of going on and on about this, there were 2
comments made: one is this will be on the agenda at the next Regular Meeting of Council which
is tonight and there will be a notification to everyone on that list plus of any additional
neighborhood and informational meetings. Just that's all I wanted to say to clarify that point
from what I said. And if it was misunderstood any other way, I can't be responsible for that. But
I will say this-had we called everybody on that list at 5:00 today and said that the Steigerwalds
were withdrawing their appeal and then they walked in there tonight and said you know what, we
are not going to withdraw our appeal. And you guys would have stayed home and we would
have been left with the appeal to vote on. So I'm not sure, exactly, what kind of lines of
communication you are looking for but we're really trying to keep everybody involved in the
process. There's a great number of people that I've heard from who are very appreciative of
that. Thank you. No need for applause.
Mr. Marquardt said I think that I'd like to make a comment that I think we are confusing people
in the community. I was confused, quite frankly, after reading this notice of this meeting on the
November 4th and reading that this item was up on the agenda along with notes about the various
variances and stuff I was confused quite frankly when I got this in my packet as to what was
going on because this letter on the meeting on the 4th implies that this is a done deal. So I can
understand. I got calls from people in the community that they were confused as to what's going
on and the assumption that this is a "done deal." So I think that there is valid concern. Our ,
communications are not going through well. And they are the receptors on it. They are making
comments. It is not going through. Thank you.
- ,
- _ ;.
