Regular Council Meeting 10-21-02 Page 27 i little uncomfortable with this $30,000 to do the bathrooms and we'll find some people or get some more quotes. Mr. Samac said yes, Mr. President and that's the reason I did use that language. I have solicited several quotes from contractors. Unfortunately, and at the time of the writing I knew I wasn't going to receive the 3 quotes that I wanted to have prior to the meeting. I still do not have them on my desk as of today. I don't expect them until later in the week or the first part of next week. Council President Buckholtz said I guess what I am asking, what's wrong with approving this at the November meeting? What am I missing? Mr. Samac said what the problem is, Mr. President, is simply this. We know the cost, wherever it comes in it's going to be somewhere between $25 and $30,000. I have one quote that is less than $30,000. I'd rather not spell it out yet because we haven't received the other quotes. But, if I'm not able to let a contractor know that he can go out and order some of these partitions and some of the other materials necessary for the job, we will not be able to get the job done in January. We keyed 30 days-the entire month of January, we have access for the room to do this remodeling. Because there will be no toilet facilities during the construction so we can't use the building. Council President Buckholtz said with all due respect and I guess what I am asking is if we could approve this at our meeting in November which is not the 2na week, it's a third week unless we did a special meeting at Caucus to approve it. They would have plenty of time; they just need the month of December to get the materials for January. Mr. Samac said they need 8 weeks. They are talking they need 6 to 8 weeks. I would bet on the outside all of the time. Mr. Brett said we would come back with formal authorization in November. What Bernie is looking for now is give me $30,000 and we already (I heard the bid is under $20,000...) Council President Buckholtz said well that is my problem-going out there and saying we have $30,000 to work with-do we have anybody that wants this job? I mean I can get you 50 companies.. . Mr. Brett said we already have a bid that is well under $30,000 so we're just working with that number. But what he's looking for...until he can get those other 2 quotes:.. He will come back and formally... Mr. Samac said I will come back formally, and that's after we receive the other 2 quotes. I'd like to have the opportunity, or if you choose not, that's fine. We'll just do the thing next year because that will be the next window of opportunity. Several people spoke at once then Council President Buckholtz said I wasn't pitting this against like next year....
