Regular Council Meeting
10-21-02
Page 6
it) so that was approved. The Carpenter Road radio system enhancement for Hillcrest Radio.
Basically, the committee recommended this item for approval. It's a shared amount not to
exceed $3,000.
Finance Committee - Dr. Parker said tonight the Finance Committee met. (An agenda is
attached for reference.) The committee recommended Items 1, 2, 3, & 4 for approval.
Regarding Item #5, this cost will be reimbursed by the Cleveland Water Department and the
committee recommended approval. Regarding Item #6, according to Phil, this project will
probably range about $850,000, the cost of which we will be responsible for approximately 25%.
The committee did recommend approval. Item #7-Discussion ensued as to the condition of the
buildings on the properties that we bought. It was the feeling of Mr. Samac that these 2
buildings will probably need to be taken down and, while we had deferred action on this at this
time, it is likely that there will be some financial implications to that somewhere in the range of
$20,000 (give or take.) Item #8 was recommended for approval. Item #9-this was an increase
in the original amount that we had approved (I believe it was approximately $4,000+ dollars
difference. What will happen is the prior motion will be replaced by this one. The committee
recommended #9 for approval. Item #10, the committee decided to request that Mr. Adams of
BTS come before one of our Caucuses and explain what his company can do and the cost and
what's involved. That was our suggestion. Item #11, we discussed this item thoroughly and
after a lot of discussion we are recommending that we actually replace the old 20 kilowatt unit
_ with a 30 kilowatt unit. The price-the numbers--will change. Bernie, what is it looking like in
terms o£ ..we will have to have the Gas Company bring in some additional service so the unit
will have sufficient gas. But after much discussion, the committee members felt that having the
additional power (or kilowattage) would well be worth the additional cost. [It will] probably be
in the range of about $7,000 additional (between the difference cost in generators and bringing
the service over.) Does that pretty much state it, Bernie? .
Mr. Samac replied, that states it very well.
Dr. Parker (continuing his report) said Item #12, as you recall, this item was discussed at length
about a year and a half, two years ago, with regard to the bathrooms and what the work that had
to be done in this building. The committee did recommend approval to have that work done.
We are on a time constraint and we were all in favor of that.
Dr. Parker said I wanted to add two more items to that agenda for items that were added on. One
was $15,000 for a folding machine for mailings as well as $2,976 for equipment and labor to
B&C Communications to upgrade one of our towers because there is a dead zone in an area
where our safety services cannot communicate with each other and this would allow to eliminate
that dead zone.
Hillcrest Council of Councils - Mr. Marrie said they held a meeting on Saturday, October 12.
The speaker was Tim Hagan. They installed their new officers: Ed Icove is the President, Ed is
- from South Euclid--he is the ex-Council President from Pepper Pike--we have Paulette
t Morganstern who is the Vice President; from South Euclid, Jim Boyle is the Secretary and from
4 .Lyndhurst, Scott Picker is the current Treasurer. The next meeting will be in January.
-_
