Regular Council Minutes
11-18-02
Page 18
holidays when kids are looking for things to do. And then I feel very confident that we are not
going to come anywhere near that $25,000 that we were looking at spending. Again, that was
just a figure that we threw out. I think it will be closerwe are looking at someone at around a
$6-7.00 an hour for an aide or someone to supervise the kids in the basement. We will have
volunteer parents, I know, for at least the first couple of weeks and especially during the
holidays. I'm not anticipating having anyone (correct me if I am wrong) spending a lot of money
during that time. It will be more of the road trips and then a couple of days in the Board of
Education. Then once we get rolling, which will be after the holidays, truly after the holidays,
then that aide will come to be and the expenditure will be around $6 to $7.00 an hour for about 4
or 5 hours a day depending on what it is. Obviously during the weekends it will be a little bit
more. So, again, I am not anticipating spending anywhere near the $25,000.
Mrs. Cinco said well keep us updated on that. It would be interesting to see the expenses.
Mr. Thomas said we will be talking to the Business Alliance and there is a commitment,
obviously, from Mayfield Village but you've got to start somewhere. I think there will be a
commitment from other organizations in this District to support this program.
Dr. Parker said I think we can also look toward grants and things. I think there's probably quite a
few grants out there.
Council President Buckholtz said if I can address that, and Mr. Marquardt, we've had this
conversation before-we actually approved this in title but we didn't have the ordinance. And I
was even, when they drafted the ordinance what we were really approving tonight, although it's
in the ordinance so it deserves the discussion and you certainly deserve your comments and
remarks, what I thought all we were approving tonight was the employee position because we
approved in title the start-up money. I can tell you this-that everywhere we have gone to-
when we went to ArvinMeritor-everybody wants to kick into this thing. And I understand your
objection is that we're doing it "bassackwards" in your opinion; we're putting up the money to
do it. I recognize that; I respectfully disagree, but it is our intention to say yes to everybody that
wants to give us money and fund this thing and if we never have to tap this or tap this very little,
that would be great. But it's the only way to dive in and know that you're not going to let the
kids down and you're going to be able to move forward. That was my, as one of the co-founders
of the idea, that's what we had in mind. Any other comments?
There were no additional comments.
ROLL CALL: AYES: Council President Buckholtz, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Marrie, Mrs. Mills,
Dr. Parker, Mr. Riter
NAYS: Mr. Marquardt Motion Carried
Ordinance Enacted
First Reading of Resolution No. 2002-16, entitled; "An resolution accepting the amounts and rates
as determined by the Budget Commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying
them to the County Auditor." Introduced by Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole.
