Regular Council Minutes
11-18-02
Page 4
definitely a safety factor to have this item evaluated to see what we can turn up. The dump truck
was discussed and again, that was in Finance and on the agenda tonight and the committee
recommended for passage. Mrs. Mills brought up the knox boxes and at that time Mr. Strater
was there and people do know and it has been mentioned that if they need one they can ask.
Finance Committee - Dr. Parker said Finance Committee met this evening. A number of items
on our agenda: The committee recommended approval of Items #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (this money will
reimbursed through a grant), 7, 8 (we did receive a discount with that, too) 9 and 10. On item
#11, the Committee recommended that we defer action pending further discussion. There was a
group of items (5 new properties with respect to the S.O.M. Center Road acquisition of
properties along there and I guess we'll discuss that, too, in our meeting but the Committee did
recommend that we go ahead.) Phil, do you need to give us any numbers on that at that point?
(See agenda attached.)
Mr. Brett said why don't we do that after. I had asked the Council President to move the agenda
upon completion of the Executive Session to try and take care of that. Then, I will hand out (I
have sheets here with the prices.)
Hillcrest Council of Councils - Mr. Marrie said there was no meeting, there was no report.
Historical Society -Mrs. Mills said at this time we are getting bids from various electrical
contractors with regards to installing 40 new lighting units on the second floor. We had a good
turnout on November 16th for the Turkey Raffle. Work is continuing in the basement in the tool
display area. Don't forget our annual Potluck Dinner on December 11th at 6:30 in the
Community Room.
M.A.R.C. - Mr. Marrie said the Mayfield Area Recreation Council met on November 7. A letter
was read from a Donna Loy Pollack, who is an artist, who on behalf of the other artists thanked
M.A.R.C. for their support in the arts for the art show that was recently held and also for her
awards. There are some nice numbers for the youth in the area-the gymnastics enrollment is in
the low 60's (excellent for this time of year); 6th grade and 7th grade floor hockey has 41
children; flag football did very well at 65 (they added two teams); the second session of the
Chess Club has 18 enrolled; there will be another gymnastics offered before the end of January.
As Bill touched onbefore-something that is really outstanding-the MBA has a participation of
212 children; the 4th and 5th ~rade girls now have their own team (which was never done before);
that will go along with the 4t and 5th grade boys and the 6th to 8th grade boys and girls. The total
of the teams now are 27 in four different leagues. The rugby coaches visited all the summer
camps and did trials with the children during the summer and asked them what they would like
and went over some of the rugby, so that looks like it's going to be offered in the spring.
Ordinance Review Committee - Mr. Marquardt said there was no meeting; there is no report.
Planning and Zoning- Mr. Marquardt said same thing [there was no meeting, no report.] We will
have a workshop session on Thursday.
